I think thats part of it... and also that you're shooting at f/1.4 from such a distance.

1.2, 1.4... same difference shooting from that distance. if you could've somehow shot at f/2, I think it would've made a little more of a difference. But judging by the light, it was probably not going to happen.

= not a prayer in the world to get it sharp... but that doesnt mean its not a good photo. Lots of classic PJ work isnt razor sharp. Catching the moment is key.

I don't think most non-photogs would appreciate the photo though...when the buddy has to use a flashlight to illuminate the paper he's reading, you know it's damn dark.

Non-photogs...why is it all grainy and colors are bland and kinda blurry?
