wouldn't even bother with 98. not to mention that the internet now, unless he turned off all the images and media aspects, would freeze that little laptop up.

Make it a router with Linux. Never throw away shit unless it's broken.

Tough to make a laptop a router, since they can generally only have one network card.

However, it'd work okay as a regular system with Linux and a lightweight WM like XFCE or FVWM. Wouldn't be fast, but it'd work.

It will run Windows although I would try out a bunch of Linux distro's on it and see which one I like the most.
Probably Gentoo as I haven't had much expierience with that yet.

I have a 133mhz laptop, I use to to play mp3s over my network, even has firefox and winamp on it. Its fast enough to stream shoutcast too..I also had like 50mb of ram..

I *highley* suggest you get Win98 Lite, and install it in the micro setting. The micro setting installs a hybrid win98/win95 version that is faster and more lighter than anything that came on the computer when it was new.

I suggest you aquire a copy from somewhere: http://www.litepc.com/98lite.html

It'll run graphical Linux, just not super-pretty graphicall Linux and not super-fast. I used Linux with GUI on a Pentium Pro 133 with 16MB of RAM and it was usable (although slow) for basic word processing and such.

That should run Linux with XFCE as a WM really smoothly.

Make it a dedicated ROM player. Put it in an old NES style arcade box. It'd be f'in sweet.
