absolutely. i'm in multiple iMessage group chats with dudes I met from the poker thread on this forum 15 years ago. we pretty much chat daily and I consider them friends, albeit online friends
I’ve been grappling and thinking about this a lot lately, but one of my biggest regrets EASILY in life was having an at-times crummier online persona and not doing more to build better friendships with the people I was in online communities with, be it this forum, a few others, some gaming groups, etc. I had def had fun making friends and hanging out at car meets through a local forum in the early 00s (RiP sportsnimports) and really regret shying away from that shit because I thought it made me less cool the older and more self conscious I got I guess. Now that I’m older I definitely realize the fucking value I missed out on not developing some of those connections better.
