I turned on my computer today after being out of town....

my 2nd Western digital 80gb didn't show up in winxp or in disk manager

i rebooted and noticed it was in bios, and then it was back up in windows.....

just now i was ripping a DVD to this 2nd HD and i got an error message about "cant write to file on g:\etc". ..... drive/partitions are missing again!!!

winxp (SP1) with norton AV and no viruses/spyware - HD are set to power off in windows "never"

could be drive going bad, bad cable, or intermittent controller problems.

Run Seagate Diagnostics (I find the floppy/cdrom option best, but there's one you can run in windows, too) and see if the drive passes. If it does, try a new cable.
