they must work in different ways... how do they differ?
From what I read:
3x10 is probably leaning towards building size.
5x5 is middle ground between size and strength.
anyone more knowledgable got an answer?
cool...I'd like to know aswell.
what about Rippetoe routine, anyone tried it?
The program is as follows:
You alternate Workout A and Workout B every other day, 3 times a week. So you could either do Mon, Wed, Fri or Tues, Thurs. and Sat. Depending on what works best for you.
Monday - Workout A
Wednesday -Workout B
Friday - Workout A
Monday - Workout B
Wednesday - Workout A
Friday - Workout B
For the actual workouts read below:
Note: This doesn’t include warm-up sets
**Means this is OPTIONAL**
3x5 Bench Press
**2x8 Dips (if you cant do these or no assist machine then do Decline Dumbbell Bench Press with your hands Facing each other)
3x5 Standing military press
3x5 Pendlay or Bent Rows (or power cleans)
**2x8 Chin-ups (recommended mainly if doing the cleans)
Why only 1x5 on deadlift?
There are warm up lifts as well. So I guess it would be fine
3x5 squat every other day?
and i think i'd like to do more back than that routine has
ya know, i've been doing 5x4-6 for quite a while... i think 3x8-10 is a good idea if for no other reason, just to switch it up
I'm going to agree. With my experience, 5x5 has gotten me strong in a short amount of time, but I didn't put on much size. With 3x10 (I actually did 3x8), it took much longer for me to get stronger, but I got bigger faster.
i wonder what 3x10 would do if you're eating around maintenance/slightly below
nobody else has any opinions?
perhaps it means to work up to a 5RM
you should be able to move more weight w/ 3x10..
confusion....must not flame......
i read it and closed the thread before it made my head explode
you mean lift heavier? when i do a 5x5, i basically do my 6RM on each set... i pretty much work to failure... there's no way my 10RM is near my 6RM
when ur doing the 3x10(3x8) do u ramp up the weight or do u jus stick 2 one set amount of weight and do that for 3x8?
Crooks- Do you mean 3 sets of 10, or 10 sets of 3?
3 sets of 10 is pretty much a worthless setup, imo.
how is 3 sets of 10 worthless
I use a 4x6-8 scheme for a lot of exercises
3 sets of 8-10 reps
set amount... i try to hit failure (or close to it) each set to keep the intensity level up
good god, are you serious?
