Set 20 years before Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, A.D. Police chronicles the tales of Mega-Tokyo's special police division designed to control rogue Boomers in the city.

A.D. Police Officer Kenji Sasaki faces a major dilemna: he loses another partner to a rabid boomer. A day after he's sent off-duty, he receives a new partner in the form of German cop Hans Kleif. Funny thing is that Kenji sucker-punched Hans at a bar the night before. Not only does Kenji face the everyday task of controlling Boomers, he has to learn to adjust with his new partner.

    Story: C
This is absolutely nothing like the A.D. Police Files OAV series. Sure, there's character development, but who's interested in these characters anyway? Kenji and Hans have nothing on Bubblegum Crisis' Leon McNichol.

    Animation: D
Piss-poor! Absolutely piss-poor! With really cheap artwork and even cheaper animation, A.D. Police makes the first three episodes of the original Bubblegum Crisis look like Cowboy Bebop in terms of quality.

    Soundtrack: B
The opening and ending themes are pretty catchy, but that's about it.

    Sub vs. Dub
A.D. Police features Susumu Chiba as Kenji Sasaki, Takumi Yamazaki (Isamu in Macross Plus) as Hans Kleif, Yukari Nozawa as Nancy Wilson, Koji Ishii as Jose Collins, Chiharu Tezuka as Karen Jordan, Takako Kodama as Mary Malone, Tomohiro Nishimura (Yang in Macross Plus, Gigil in Macross 7) as Paul Sanders, Shinpachi Tsuji as Hideaki Kurata, and Ayako Kawasumi (Melfina in Outlaw Star, Ruriko in Gate Keepers) as Kyoko Miyano.

ADV Films' English dub is just poor like most of their titles.

    DVD Extras: D
Just trailers. Nothing about the anime.

    The Bottom Line
Yes, the debates between Bubblegum Crisis and Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 will go on, but one thing's for sure: the new A.D. Police anime ABSOLUTELY SUCKS! Go hunt down AnimEigo's original A.D. Police Files OAV series or the manga instead.
