During an attack by an unknown entity, a man named Osamu stumbles upon a stasis pod containing a woman. He later on discovers that she is a vampire named Kimera and she is wanted by other members of her vanishing race to aid in bringing back the vampire bloodline and putting an end to the human race.

    Story: D-
Exactly what story is the anime trying to tell? First, we see that Kimera is a vampire movie. Then, all of a sudden, we find out that vampires here are from another planet (Wow, these guys must have been watching an Ed Wood marathon or something). That doesn't really bother me much. However, there are two reasons to stay away from this anime: 1) It's boring as hell; and 2) Kimera is both male and female? Enough of this yaoi crap!

    Animation: C+
With character designs by Yasuomi Umezu (Gatchaman '94, Mezzo Forte) and animation by Animate Film (Battle Angel, The Heroic Legend of Arslan) and J.C. Staff (Azumanga Daioh, Slayers), you'd think Kimera would have some decent artwork and animation, right? Not really. The fight scenes are bland, some of the colors are washed out and everything else is just not fun to look at.

    Soundtrack: C-
Even elevator music sounds more exciting than this.

    Sub vs. Dub
Kimera features Tatsuo Tobita as Kimera, Yasunori Matsumoto (Gourry in Slayers, Seta in Love Hina) as Osamu, Jurota Kosugi (Dryden in Escaflowne, Nagumo in Samurai Girl Real Bout High School) as Kianu, Mugihito (Keel Lorentz in Neon Genesis Evangelion, Prof. Saotome in Getter Robo Armageddon) as Ginzu, Ryotaro Okiayu (Sakata in Love Hina, Jinnai in El-Hazard) as Jay, Daisuke Gouri (Mr. Satan in Dragon Ball Z/DBGT, Mari in Project A-Ko) as Dr. Fender, Yoshitaka Arimoto as Dr. Gibson, and Katsumi Suzuki (Kakizaki in Macross, SEELE Member in Evangelion) as Hunter.

What do a vampire and ADV's English dub of this anime have in common? THEY BOTH SUCK!

    DVD Extras: F
What extras? (BTW, trailers don't count as they're mandatory on most anime titles.)

    The Bottom Line
Can't sleep? Kimera is the perfect cure for insomnia. Otherwise, if you want a vampire anime, watch Vampire Hunter D or Hellsing instead.
