Ruthless sorcerer Chivas Scotch (renamed to Shibas to prevent any lawsuits) is hired by a count named Cuttlefish to destroy an evil monster  village. But things go awry when Chivas fails to destroy the monster and he's forced to transfer his spirit in the body of his beautiful servant Gin Fizz.

    Story: C
While potentially good as a side-story in the Sorcerer Hunters universe, Chivas 1-2-3 suffers from being too derivative of other medieval sorcery anime like Bastard!! and Maze. The whole use of liquor as names was ripped off from NG Knight Lamune & 40. And with only two episodes, Chivas 1-2-3 should've at least continued with either more OAV episodes or as a TV series.

    Animation: A-
This is where Chivas 1-2-3 shines: beautiful animation with character designs by Hisashi Abe (Chobits, Sorcerer Hunters) and some digital eye candy on the side.

    Soundtrack: B
I like the ending theme; the rest of the soundtrack isn't much to talk about.

    Sub vs. Dub
Chivas 1-2-3 features Kazuki Yao (Judeau in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, Iketani in Initial D) as Chivas, Yuka Imai (Otaru in Saber Marionette R/J/J Again/J to X, Wakaba in Revolutionary Girl Utena) as Fizz, Chinami Nishimura (Kiki in Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, Feilin in Gate Keepers) as Kiss and female Chivas, Nobutoshi Canna (Basara in Macross 7, Ban in GetBackers) as Genmi, Fujiko Takimoto (Suguru in Mahoromatic, Suguru in Gravitation) as Million, Yuri Shiratori (Mei in Love Hina, Cherry in Saber Marionette R/J/J Again/J to X) as Meru-su, Ayako Kawasumi (Mahoromatic, Ruriko in Gate Keepers) as Taru-ho, Katsutoshi Hoki as Cuttlefish, and Jurota Kosugi (Hakaider in Android Kikaider, Dryden in Escaflowne) as Icarus.

ADV's English dub isn't as funny as the Japanese dialogue. Featured voices include Jay Hickman (Itsuki in RahXephon) as Shibas, Monica Rial (Kirika in NOIR, Hyatt in Excel Saga) as Fizz and female Shibas, Hilary Haag (Karinka in Steel Angel Kurumi, Megumi in RahXephon) as Kiss, Kira Vincent-Davis (Quon in RahXephon, Nakahito in Steel Angel Kurumi) as Meru and Taru, John Swasey as Cuttlefish, and Mike Kleinhenz (Fattman in Spriggan) as Icarus.

    DVD Extras: D+
ADV tries to humor us with a "hunting" mini-game that doesn't compare to Excel Saga's DVD bonuses.

    The Bottom Line
Despite lacking in originality, Chivas 1-2-3 is a pretty good anime to rent.
