High school student Cacao just woke up one morning to discover something strange next to him in bed - a green-haired girl named Hinano. As it turns out, Hinano is a result of a magical spell in Cacao's sorcery club gone wrong.

During a session in the club, he got hungry and ate a bar of magical chocolate lying around his professor's desk. Because it was magical chocolate and it expired 200 years ago, Cacao got severely stoned and while his professor was summoning a fairy, he accidentally sneezed on the magical circle of sorcery. As a result, you have Hinano, a fairy possessing a life-sized marionette body.

    Story: C
I just watched the first episode and it didn't make any sense at all. Perhaps when I check out two or three more episodes, maybe I can give a better rating.

    Animation: B+
Animation is done by AIC, but there's nothing special about it.

    Soundtrack: B+
Trouble Chocolate uses some J-Pop BGM that I didn't pay too much attention to.

    Sub vs. Dub
Trouble Chocolate features Tomoki Yanagi as Cacao, Sakura Tange (Card Captor Sakura, Kasumi in Dead or Alive 2) as Hinano, Tomohiro Tsuboi as Ghana, Kyoko Hikami (Doujima in Witch Hunter Robin, Cyberdoll Sara in Hand Maid May) as Deborah, Shigeru Nakahara (Trowa in Gundam Wing, Android 17 in Dragon Ball Z) as Papaya, Hidenari Ugaki (Argo in Mobile Fighter G-Gundam) as Big Bang, Yuji Ueda (Keitaro in Love Hina, Sagara in Rurouni Kenshin) as Ham-Ham, Hiromi Tsunakake as Azuki, Hiroshi Otake (Boss in Mazinger Z) as the old teacher, and Ikue Otani (Merle in Escaflowne, Pikachu in Pocket Monsters) as Almond.

Because I reviewed a fansub, I have no judgment towards the English dub at this time. But for those interested in the English cast, here it is:

Richard Cox (Inu-Yasha, new male Ranma in Ranma 1/2) as Cacao, Nicole Oliver (Key the Metal Idol, Emeraldas in Galaxy Express 999) as Hinano, Michael Dobson (Fuse in Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, Dryden in Escaflowne) as Ganache, Venus Terzo (female Ranma in Ranma 1/2, B-Ko in Project A-Ko 2-4) as Deborah, Ron Halder (Daigo in The Soul Taker, Dr. Toros in Zoids) as Papaya, Brian Dobson (Garma Zabi in Mobile Suit Gundam, Red Alert in Transformers: Armada) as Big Bang, Saffron Henderson (Hamtaro, Noin in Gundam Wing) as Almond and Green Tea, Ted Cole (Kuno in Ranma 1/2, Wu-Fei in Gundam Wing) as Murakata, Richard Newman (Dornkirk in The Vision of Escaflowne, Cale in Ronin Warriors) as Mozzarella, Kelly Sheridan (Hitomi in Escaflowne, Ukyo in Ranma 1/2) as Red Bean, Andrew Francis (Tokio in Arjuna, Dilandau in Escaflowne) as Sardine, Jocelyn Loewen (Merle in Escaflowne, Quess in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack) as Wheat, and Don Brown (Elder Ham in Hamtaro, Garlic Jr./King Kai/Hercule in Dragon Ball Z) as Master.

    The Bottom Line
Trouble Chocolate isn't bad. It's just too weird for first-time anime viewers. Rent it first, then decide for yourself.
