This is an odd situation, but I wanted to see if you folks could offer some advice. I'm helping a local shop get online with google. Part of this involved re-doing their website. They had registered their domain name through 1dollarhosting/webcountry, which is a completely crooked company by all accounts. Some reviews are here: http://hostjury.com/reviews/Webcountry http://www.yelp.com/biz/webcountry-tarzana A while ago, I had them log into their webcountry account to change their hosting plan to a more reliable company, and change the nameservers to point to zoneedit. WebCountry immediately emailed them demanding to know why they made those changes. Yesterday, a "Danny Taylor" called them saying they owed $180.xx for "services due." They asked what the bill was for, but the person from Webcountry wouldn't elaborate on the charges. They also threatened to "hold the domain name hostage," and had already gone into the account & changed the nameservers back to Webcountry. Additionally, the login used to access the control panel was disabled. I decided to call them to find out whatever I could. The guy answering the phone initially refused to tell me his name, and eventually said it was "uh...William." When I asked about the account, he kept demanding to know who I was and "why I cared." I mentioned, politely, that I needed to change the whois information for that name, and transfer it to a different registrar. His exact words were "Yeah, that's never going to fucking happen." He then hung up on me. I've called back multiple times, and get hung on each time. At this point, they were holding the domain name hostage, and refuse to talk to anyone. What, short of going down to Tarzana CA, can we do? All ideas would be welcome. Thanks!
