Councilman Hit By Stray Police Bullet AP - 8/22/2007 10:19 AM - Updated 8/22/2007 10:21 AM ELK CITY, Okla. (AP) -- Burns Flat City Councilman Bill Bolechala is recovering after being hit by a stray bullet that's believed to have come from a police firing range in Elk City. Bolechala says he was in Elk City to have his car serviced Tuesday and was standing outside the car dealership when he felt like he was hit with a bat or by a bird. He says when he looked at his left side he saw the blood. Bolechala was treated and released at a local hospital. He says the bullet is between his hip and ribs and doctors don't plan to remove it unless it becomes infected. Police would not comment but Bolechala says police told him they believe the bullet came from the police gun range about two to three miles from the dealership. He says police also told him they'll pay his medical bills.
