What do your co-workers/managers think of you coming in with cuts and black eyes when you do?
I told my boss up front that I train in MMA and explained to him what it was. Mentioned it to my co-workers too. There have been a few times I come in with bruising or my lips swollen and cut up and they all mess with me, but its all in good fun.
Just let them know you train in an actual sport and that you don't just go to the bar and get the shit kicked out of you. For the people in the office that don't know/don't care to learn what MMA is, I just tell them I'm a kickboxer.
If I have an important meeting coming up, I don't do stand up/MMA class that week just in case though.
"oh, you're one of those ultimate fighters?"
Yeah they knew me before they hired me. I didnt talk to many clients at all in person mainly on the phone and via email one of the few times I spoke to a client/business partner I couldnt see out of my eye it was he worst black eye ever. I called the marketing guy who was going to be in the meeting too and told him about it he said 'Damn this is gonna look bad I caught a thumb in the eye at Kung Fu and its all busted up too.' so in we walked with matching black eyes. We explained what had happened and he made fun of us for the next 3 hours.
I work for an Boxing/MMA company. So it's kind of the norm with several people here.
Yeah, i get some pretty ignorant comments sometimes, but I just respond with class. If they care to actually learn something about it I will tell them. But mos of the time you can tell with the person and I will just default with "I'm a kickboxer". Its just easier that way sometimes.
before i did the gym for home thing i would hear the words "ultimate fighter" tossed around so much in the rec center i lifted at.
(nothing to do with me)
I don't do striking, nor do I work at an office, but caught a knee to the face rolling last week and have had a black eye(ish) ever since.
Someone actually asked me if "I got caught with a really good punch during jiu jitsu".
I caught a knee in the mouth last night and my lip is swollen. Luckily i've been able to hide in my cube all day though.
I've been pretty good with savate so far. There was one day I got really popped in the nose/lip and I had a big client meeting the next day. Lucky for me that 1) the French don't hit really hard, 2) I don't swell that much.
Everyone in the office knows though, and I'm sure my client would just laugh it off.
The CEO and President of the company both came to my fight on Saturday.
They know wuts good.
aweeee Doggah aweeeee
cool, how'd ya do?
Victory K.O via push kick to spinning backfist.
Oh man, I just had to say that before going to the gym. I got my head scrambled tonight by a big African dude. Oh karma.
Thanks for shipping my order today
I ordered union hoodie last week, and it was really nice, i was very impressed. Fit great, looked awesome. Unfortunately my drunk ass left it in Tahoe over the weekend, so I ordered a new one, a hat, and a trooper tshirt to ease my pain.
should have ordered the BADASS T*U shorts.
Last time it took 4 days, but after I ordered I remembered it was because of the holiday. It was only a few bucks more, so Im not worried. Will remember next time tho!
Where do you train? I'll be in Paris this winter and was toying with the idea of picking up some savate.
