How hard are they to attain?
the guy at the range said that for some reason they either are or are soon going to be really hard to get
They're not hard to obtain if you've got $3.5k-$4.5K to spend. They've been banned from importation for awhile now.
Not that hard to find if you got the cash.
That's FUBAR. I've always wanted one of them. They are so clean looking.
about a dozen of them on gunsamerica heres the cheapest one.
Gun store here has 2. They're expensive and seem like they would be a bitch to clean.
there are a few full auto ones floating around too, although its very hard to get parts for apparantly.
another case of somethign being banned because it looks scary
Steyr has that problem a lot. Their overseas marketing department blows.
I owned one of the first semi-auto AUG's that came in the country (green, 20" barrel)-bought it in 1985, imported by Interarms. It was a great, great gun. I sold it to my wife's uncle in 1990 to re-purchase an HK93 I had sold to a friend back in the early 80's (!).
The AUG was a blast to shoot, and I still kick myself for selling it. I bought it for around $700, sold it for $1500, and last time I checked, the prices were double that.
They really aren't too bad. Field stripping it literally takes 5 seconds. The cool thing is that the trigger pack (almost all made of plastic) simply slides out the back end of the receiver.
Average going price now a days seems to be $3300+
stupid weapons import laws
A friend of mine had one, I tried it out, very nice, but the trigger pull was rediculous. After my first attempt at shooting it, I ahd to take another look at it, thinking the safety was on, but my friend told me it's just a really tough trigger. But besides the tough trigger, it was great. He was lucky enough to get his when they were $1500.
It's a bullpup.. expect a godawful trigger.
Fondled the Aug never got to shoot it, I shot an AK bullpup conversion which had godawful trigger pull, I know thats due to the way its setup with the hammer way the hell back in the reciever.. would of thought atleast they'de find a way to make it tolerable on a real nonkit/conversion bullpup. Shot the bushmaster m17 or whatever the fuck they call that, shitty trigger and just a godawful heap of shit in general, my buddy had nothing but problems with it.
They are actually banned from importation because they were selling guns to the Iranians.
Partially correct. Steyr is facing sanctions by the US, for selling several .50s to Iran. Steyr is protesting the action, saying it was contractually legal, since the weapons were for an Iranian drug interdiction force.
Something that took gettting use to on the AUG was the site reticle. It was a thick, hollow circle. If I Remember Correctly, zero was the lower inside of the circle.
Still wish I had it, weird reticle and all.
I heard that they were no longer making rifles. I could be wrong thou. I love shoot the Steyr. I have shot both the AUG and the USR.
Heres a beautiful one for sale
Damn that gun is hot.
