if all you do in Photoshop is clone stamp/healing brush and redeye fixes, Picasa's versions are faster, easier, and generally better. picasa allows you to manage photos really really well, and it has tie-ins for blogs and picasaweb, email, etc. it supports raw formats but doesn't yet allow you to make raw-type edits

I've been using Canon DPP for raw stuff and picasa for managing and retouching.. it's faster for me than photoshop, and I've been using photoshop for like 8 years.

the only REAL problem with picasa is cropping is very hard to get to exact dimensions (like if you're trying to crop to a certain.. so I use DPP for that when I need it.

I think it's sad that so many "photographers" these days spend more time in photoshop or lightroom than they do behind the camera :hs:

I like post processing as much as I like shooting.... :dunno:

fwiw, I spent just as much time in the chemical darkroom....

I've heard good things about picasa 3 too, kind of like a PS lite....

:werd: but also with a great photo manager.

and you don't need a super computer to run it.

I love picasa, much easier for managing and viewing photos than LR.

I hate how it builds an archive or database when images are added to your folder. I've been adding folders as I need them. is there any way to do that?

Tools, Folder Options..

if I understand you right.. just turn scanning off for all folders (Scan Once or Remove from Picasa) depending on whether or not you want to keep it there.

the only real downside to having it set to Scan Always is if you keep your pics on an external or network drive and you load picasa without access to the drive it will remove them and then when you gain access it will add them back..

but then you can just set to Scan Once and it shouldn't auto-remove them if you load picasa without access to those pics

it really is. I liked lightroom for the trial month when I used it.. but then Picasa3 came out and it's just BETTER

I guess 'better' means different things where you and I come from.

picasa has it's uses, but in no way is it better than LR or the CS3/4 suites.

it's a better photo manager, no doubt. it's lacking in editing features, specifically raw editing, but other than that..
