Hi. I am going to get an EOTech 512 for one of my AR15 flat-tops with a ARMS flip-up rear sight and solid front. I dont know much about EOTechs. I tried reading somethings on cowitnessing, but am not completely familiar yet.

    Some questions I have:

-What mount should I get if I want absolute cowitness?
-What mount should I get if I want lower 1/3 cowitness?

    Thanks.

mounting it right on the upper will give you absolute cowitness

So I do not need to buy anything else for it?

So buying a 1/4 riser will give me lower 1/3?

Are there advantages to go with one or the other?

If it's on a riser you use optic as the primary sight picture, which I like. Without the riser you see the iron sights lined up with the optical sight. Just don't get flip up BUIS :noes:

I am still debating optics I want, but the 512F is in the lead

With no mount, it co-witness smack right in the middle.
With a mount, the iron sights will only cover the bottom 1/3 of the window.

Personally, I prefer the mount. Just gives me more room in the EOTech window.

Whats wrong with flip up sights? :o

Thanks. What riser / mounts should I be looking at? Cost isnt an issue just yet. But nothing too expensive.

the problem with flip up's is one, target aquisition speed and two, sight picture. with the 68 or similar there is no paralax and what you put the dot on you hit.

GGG is OK...but the LT-110 rules the roost here.

    http://www.laruetactical.com

I've got my Aimpoint CompM3 2MOA in an LT-150 and it is the SHIT. Returns to zero. Every time.

Tom's on the money (as I'd expect) on the comment re: folding sights. I'd argue I have a faster acquisition with my Troy front sight with it's AK style blade than I do on a standard AR FSB. I've got a Troy in the front and a Troy in the back and couldn't be happier.
