about a gig a dollar is about what you want to pay, anything too much cheaper is gonna be a sacrifice of quality.. but hard drives are pretty much all the same. get what you can afford, and stay away from 40$ refurbed hard drives...
Check out the AnandTech HDD Hot Deals. (Go WD)
Yea the Raptors are awsome. Pretty fast. 10K RPM, but only 37GB. The Barracudas are quiet. The Hitachi caught my eye because it has lower seek time than the others.
Thanks for the link.
They = suck
I had sent in my busted IBM 75GB 75GXP drive after 2.5 years of steady service in my home server and IBM replaced it with a Hitachi 80GB (go me)
It was installed for 3 weeks and died. Now I have to arrange another RMA to send this one in before December for another replacement.
I have purchased 4 Hitachi hard drives in the last 6 months. One crashed and needs to be sent back. The two that are in my main computer are loud as hell. I don't like them at all. The 4th one I haven't had any problems with because it sits in a computer I never have to see.
