details on your overhook game plz
he can lecture you for over an hour on overhooks
I almost pulled off the overhook triangle last night while rolling with one of my instructors.
as long as his overhook game isn't some physical manifestation of otherworldly dimensional vibrations I'll happily listen.
i asked my instructor last night and we did a drill doing overhook to triangle, armbar, choke, flower sweep to mount and finishing with a choke. Chechen likes to do it with a butterfly hook though i just wanted to know how he sets his stuff up
I'm really flattered you guys are interested in it..
I really could fill an hour long video talking about the stuff i like to do from an overhook.. I don't really know how to tell you guys everything in text.. you know?
i'm going to paste teh contents of another post i made a few months ago about the overhook position i like to do..
i do a crapload of triangles from the overhook actually..
i got my game from a guy named jason brudvik who i trained with for about a year.. here are some vids of him.
vs JOACHIM HANSEN
^^^ i get this shoulder lock in training all the time, but haven't nailed it in a tournament yet. keep close attention of his grip. he grips his bicep, and the back of the guys neck. makes it extremely difficult to remove your arm.
you know jiu jitsu is hard to explain online.. but the key to the overhook is hipping out. the more you hip out, the more pressure the guy feels on his shoulder, and the more inclined he is to post his free hand. This makes it easy to triangle him.
guys shouldnt really be able to smash you when you play a half butterfly because you are constantly pushing them back with it (your hook on the same side as the overhook, and your other foot on his hip) and hipping out the whole time.
if they get too close you need to put both hands on their hips, and lift them with both your arms, and your butterfly hook, and extract your bottom leg from half guard. once you extract it you, put it on their hip and scoot far out again. when you play with an overhook the guy should be stretched out.. he should never be close enough that hes smashing you.
^^^ you can see me pull my trapped leg out here around 1:12. the guy almost passes but since i'm pushing him away, his posture sucks, and its very easy to put him in the triangle.
not sure if that helps, but thats the best i can do over the internet
this is 85% the same as the triangle setup i like to do
overhook sweep with same grip:
Will use some of those tips tonight. Thanks
thanks chech, will try the half butterfly/foot on hip setup and see how that goes
I really liked what you showed me, though I can never really get it to work for me (consistently) as well as it does for you. I know I'm probably doing 10 things wrong, though.
You should do Tameem's patented overhook seminars. Easy money. No back injuries.
you did some vids showing spider guard passes, do some shit on overhook stuff
hahah.. i'd have to do it when nobody is around. taping yourself in the academy makes you look like a freaking douche
Find someone else from cage crew to demo on and nobody ever needs to know.
That said I'd love to see it.
wanna teach me stuff when im there in june?
sure man.. bring some stuff to teach me too
I want to learn some stuff
lets all exchange some stuff... haha
we can meet at new breed again. would prob be more fun than my current academy
I can show you how to cut salmon
I'll be in SoCal in July. Who else will be?
maybe its because i'm sorta feeling sick, but i just don't understand how you do it. i'll try to rewatch the videos and all.
I can show you how to make spreadsheets if you teach me the jiu jitsu
I'm going to be in Cali from June 4th to June 7th
what the fuck dude that's when I'm going to NY
youre usually in northern CA anyway.. so what diff would it make?
I'm coming back down in like 2 weeks
wtf dude , time TO CANCEL!
jk damn man.. way to GO CHRIS! GOSH@!
