WMD'ers speak to me about barnual ammo, specifically .223 going through an AR.
All of my experiences with Barnaul have ranged from good to excellent. I've shot steel-cased out of my SKS and never had a problem. I've been recommended not to run steel-cased through an AR (the manual confirms this).
I believe Barnaul only makes steel cased stuff, so I would recommend not firing it through there, but only because I have been told not to do so by so many people.
Is it just because the steel case is stronger than the extractor?
never used there 5.56 had good luck with their other calibers though, wouldnt worry about it being steel cased, I put alot of steel cased stuff through my AR's before I sold them and never had to replace an extractor, besides with the money you generally save on steel cased vs brass you can buy a shitton of extractors.
That's what I was just thinking...if that's what the problem was I'll order two or three and throw them in the grip and or range bag
Doesn't hurt to have an extra on hand but I never broke one in an AR.
I've had decent luck with brown bear (aka Barnaul lacquer-coated) in the AR. Surprisingly, I've had a few failures to feed with a mere 60 rounds of silver bear (aka Barnaul zinc/nickel-plated). I can only speculate that it's because the lacquer coating is somewhat slippery while the zinc/nickel plating does not slide against itself so smoothly. I've had a little of the lacquer cook onto the bolt, but nothing serious.
Barnaul works well in my ARs. I've had some feed failures, but since I use it as plinking ammo, that's fine with me.
Where do you all buy this ammo? I'm really wanting an AR this fall.
go to ar15.com and look in the ammo section, they'll have what you want there.
Some dick's sporting goods have brown bear 62gr soft point for 3.99 a box
