ENT Batgirl cancelled by Warner Bros

Two different things.. The first GoT spinoff was cancelled when Season 8 started shitting the bed and they realized they needed to stick with stuff with source material (with GRRM being involved). They somehow realized their mistake from letting Dumb & Dumber run with it. That's what gives me hope for HotD - plenty of source material and GRRM heavily involved (same with Dunk & Egg).

This shitshow is more related to the new CEO trying to pivot the entire company. He wants HBOMax to be a piece of Discovery+ and not the other way around. Big dumb, in most people's opinion. This means Max originals probably go away and any WB movies have to be "giant theatrical events." They figured Batgirl was going to be more on the level of a standalone MCU character movie (that's probably even optimistic), and therefore would rather take the tax writeoff and permanently shelve it, than release it anywhere (even streaming).

Fuck this guy. He's going to drive all the HBO content into the ground. DCEU was already kinda in the ground, so..
You are dead wrong about why/how the first GOT spinoff was killed.

You are spot on with the rest.

Maybe I made some assumptions, but this seems pretty close:

Around the same time as HBO was exploring this new project, Season 8 of Thrones was bombing. That shifted HBO’s thinking, pushing them back toward Westeros’s creator and away from the pilot he was skeptical of. HBO subsequently canned The Long Night, green-lit House of the Dragon, and hired Condal, whom Martin personally wanted to lead the new series. Per THR, every Thrones-related project now in the works “has received [Martin’s] approval and the kind of close involvement he hasn’t had since the early days of Game of Thrones.”

A female lead.

Thats it.

No really thats it.
No. It's not. Read the article....

Batgirl's screenplay was by Christina Hodson, the British writer of ultra-feminist film Birds Of Prey, accused by one critic of 'hating on men — all men . . . [and] dull to the point of numbing'.

Batgirl also featured a transgender character, Alysia Yeoh, Barbara Gordon's flatmate, played by the trans actor Ivory Aquino.

The appearance, critics say, is of a film putting its 'progressive' values ahead of all other concerns.

And not for the first time. Superhero films — normally somewhere audiences might go to escape our era's endless culture wars — have increasingly become major repositories of wokery.

In 2021, Marvel's mega-budget movie Eternals — starring Angelina Jolie, Kit Harington and Richard Madden — was panned by fans and critics alike as dull and preachy. It included Marvel's first gay superhero and its first deaf one.

Lightyear, a spin-off from Pixar's celebrated Toy Story film series, was expected to be one of the biggest movies of this summer. Instead, it bombed.

Critics complained that it substituted liberal virtue-signalling — Buzz Lightyear's commanding officer is a black lesbian and the film features the first same-sex kiss in a Pixar production — for the simple, unpoliticised joys of the original movies.

buzz light year bombed? it didn’t consistently try to shove that part in your face, it was a non issue honestly and barely took up any screen time

buzz light year bombed?
lightyear did 200m worldwide so far lol is that bombing?

I think they mean bombing based on expectations

Cost 200 million to make has made 225 million, pretty bomby

Yes it is ranked 22 out of 23 movies released by Pixar going by domestic gross.

I would call that a bomb especially for an established IP with name recognition.

This is your logic "It bombed because it had a black lesbian in the movie".

Do you seriously not see your flawed logic?
