hendrix, clapton, jimmy page, other
clapton. cant compare.
Stevie Ray Vaughan
(and others mentioned above.)
he's not the best, but you forgot Satriani
i'm in the mood for debating jimmy page. i think he is sloppy.
I just listed some guitarists who may possibly be in some ones opinion the best classic rock guitarist
If I had to form an opinion of my own...
I'd say Stevie, or David Gilmour FTW.
Hendrix, Joe Satriani, Jimmy Paige...
wheres the pole
Gilmour / Hendrix are my picks.
i know rite
yeah, you should recreate this thread with a poll. include all classic guitarists mentioned, you'll get a few good hits
my favorite has always been martin barre of jethro tull. hands down, the most versatile rock guitarist around...and his tone is second to none.
I honestly don't think that there can be a #1 best ever, just simply because there are so many 'versitile' styles and tones and if you're a music fan, you know that if it sounds like nothing else... it has to be good. Originality FTW.
of course, who is to judge? music is an art and what may be art to some...is crap on a stick to others.
there are only opinions when it comes to subjects such as these.
Steve hackett, Steve howe, Robert Fripp??
Is Van Halen not classic rock enough to be up here?
I agree with Hendrix, Clapton's overrated by a country mile, Satch really isn't classic rock, and Gilmour is awesome.
If we're talking about guitarists from that era, than I'd have to say...
- Shawn Lane (Black Oak Arkansas, way ahead of his time)
- Al Di Meola
- Steve Howe (Yes)
- Alex Lifeson (Rush)
- Richie Blackmore (Deep Purple)
