what do you recommend?
data DVDs, music DVDs, movies? I just drag/drop in finder, or use toast titanium
video dvd's, as in copying dvd's
mac the ripper and toast
thats what i'm currently using. ive got one going right now
just to make sure i did it right, you rip the dvd to a folder and it contains the vob, then you do this in toast...
1 In the Data tab, click the Disc Settings button (or the disc title).
The Disc Settings drawer opens.
2 Click Advanced, then select the UDF option.
3 Click the New Disc button.
4 Drag a VIDEO_TS folder to the Data content area.
5 Click the red Record button.
6 When prompted, insert a disc into the currently selected recorder.
Toast displays a progress bar as it records your video disc.
and that will make a dvd that can play in dvd players, right?
correct. Toast can also encode and make DVD discs out of AVI files
surely there has to be a faster way to do this or i'm doing it wrong. its been burning for a couple hours now. toast says its "verifying disc" now
the drive will burn a dvd-r at 18x but i'm using a philips disc that says 1-8x
ok i just made a coaster. it doesnt play with dvd player when i put it in my powerbook, it just shows as a data disc. i put it in my dvd player and it only shows the main menu. the disc size was 4.4gb after being made. what went wrong?
also, if i want to back up my mp's to a dvd and add to it later, how do i leave the session open in toast so i can keep adding stuff to it until the disc is full?
10-4, i'll try it again. any way to speed it up? i started it about 11:30 today and it finished about 4.
hmmm... last time I tried to use mac the ripper to back up ( ) a movie of mine, it kept throwing an error right at the end. It did this with every dvd i tried to back up. is this some copyright nonsense stopping me?
i turned off verification now, but write speed i leave on "best". the disc says 1-8x, should i try something above 8x?
RCE region? Is that some setting that has to be changed in MTR? if so, i don't know... i'll check it out next time.
dvd not scratched... i bet it has to do with the region. thanks
how do you leave a session open in toast to keep adding to it later?
just drag and drop
i need toast :-(
from what i know, you just don't finalize the disk. this means it can't be played in some devices but you can add more to it when the time comes. i think this is right
What are some other options for putting .avi files onto a DVD to view on a dvd player other than toast? anything thats free?
well damn, i was thinking it might be the disc not allowing it to burn above 4x but i think its either my burner or toast. i tried to burn a burn folder in finder and it showed that it would burn at 8x. it acted like it was going to start and then it threw an error
thanks - trying it right now
EDIT: i trust you that it works, i don't want to waste time and a dvd. How long does it usually take you to encode and burn a full length movie?
roughly about 3 hours for a 2 hour movie at "best" settings
MB C2D with 1 gig of ram
is that when it has to convert from .avi or is that just to burn a .VOB or .bin/.cue?
le 'damn! i downloaded toast 7 and used the dvd video w/ video_ts folder and it burned the movie @ 8x in 7 minutes. it works! it finally works!
