That's like 10-15 hours in if you explore all the caves and everything in the starting area first, which feels right to do since Margit is way harder than any other first Souls boss that I can remember. By that amount of time I was halfway through Demon's Souls and had seen way more interesting stuff
It gets 'better' once you really start to dig in to stormveil, feel like you've got a handle on things, then progress a little further and the whole world busts open

Seeing the map expand and expand and expand and you're just like how the fuck more can it go was awesome

There was like 20 times where I was like "ok this map can't get any bigger" and then it got bigger

If anyone can tell me a point at which Elden Ring undeniably becomes amazing, then I might be open to getting there

Everything up to and including Margit is nothing special other than it being an open world souls game and the big glowing tree looking cool. Bloodborne, right out the gate, was much more stylistic and had more intense combat imo

The combat in wolong is in incredibly satisfying once it clicks. You get this rhythmic back and forth like sekiro but less reactionary and more aggressive.

Lock on system and camera are absolute shit. The camera y and x axis feel weird and there's an acceleration I don't like. I'll get used to it.

Armor is amazing. Fun designs. Titty physics. Sliders to the right.

You can do a weapon swap deflect and combine a high deflect weapon with a polearm or hammer.

Level design is ass compared to anything from software does.

I'll probably sink in 300 hours.
Well, that helps to make the below make sense

10-15 hours is "barely started". Genuinely. That's about ~1% of the total hours I have in the game.

Margit isn't bad at all. Go in with the intent of learning what he can do, not to beat him but to sort out his major skills. Practice your avoidance. Then go in and start blending that with your combat. You can even summon a helper if you want.

This is part of why I just game on console now.
I genuinely believe that Hoggy hogsterwarts would have been better on console, just for rapidly flipping between spell combos of more than four types. I'm thinking of the four spells, tapping a shoulder button and then continuing to rock someone.

The way it unfolded was just god damned amazing. I went in totally blind and at first I was like “alright, this is a decently sized map”

“Oh shit it gets bigger!”

“Holy fuck it gets even bigger!”

“Jfc how god damn big is this fuckin’ map!?”

“Wtf there’s a whole-ass underworld too!”

There aren't enough superlatives to describe the majesty of that game.

I don’t even remember the “feel” of the gunplay, just that every aspect of the game was too easy, especially as things progressed. The game was at its best towards the beginning, when the mystery and ground hog day aspects were still fresh
Too easy?!??

I've been dying a lot lol

For me, it's the world design. It really is set up in a sort of linear fashion. Game progress has you looping around the map like it's a giant staircase. It did "open world" design where there are no vistas you can't eventually reach.

The story telling is obtuse, but still solid. Gameplay is deep. I wouldn't want someone to play a game that's not resonating with them but there are lots of reasons Elden Ring is something special within the genres it straddles.

Highlights for me are invasions, the ash of war and weapon systems. Stormveil, Leyndell, Godfrey Fight
