Woah

Never played so def in

they did a remaster of 2 several years ago and i played like 1 hour of it and was like "too dated" and didn't play it anymore lol, wish i'd played it when it was new, first Ken Levine game IIRC. he worked on Thief: the Dark Project but Thief was designed by Warren Spector (Deus Ex) and Ken Levine joined development after it had already been started i'm pretty sure. i remember that Ken got the job responding to an ad in Next Generation magazine.

reminds me a lot of Solar Ash (art style) and some of the gameplay, i really liked that one

i'll play solar ash sometime, $40 is really steep for an indie game though. i also read that it runs like ass on the steam deck. not entirely a dealbreaker since i still game on my PC at home a ton but that's a real good incentive to get me to purchase something.

ran fine on the ps5

IIRC the steam deck is closer to PS4 in terms of power, but it can run games better than the PS4 did because the screen is 1280 x 800. it all comes down to optimization, from what i've read Solar Ash is poorly optimized for everything and cannot maintain a steady 60 fps on a PS5, but that might have been patched out.

for example Kena: Bridge of Spirits runs fairly poorly on the Steam Deck (barely hitting 30 fps in outdoor areas on medium / low settings) but Resident Evil VIII, a game with far better graphics, runs at a constant 60 fps without any tweaks at all.

I played closed beta to level 100 but will likely still peep this weekend, want to see how much more polish it has
nice ... do the barb/sorc/dh play similar to their D3 counterparts? (I heard no necro or druid till open beta the week after)

I played sorc only for the beta, and went with a heavy ice build, it was a lot of fun - not as spammy as D3, more deliberate almost - but once I found a good rotation I was having a lot of fun with it - even though I got to level 100 I didn’t have a ton of time to play, so I didn’t do much build crafting or messing around with fire / lightning honestly

I’ll probably play barb for this beta, because I typically don’t like warrior/barb type classes and won’t be planning on going that route when the full game drops

Will probably roll a rogue when the game releases - but would be fine playing sorc again too

I don't see the appeal of the franchise tbh

Just spamming button presses and kind of mindlessly handling hordes of enemies

To be fair I've never really attempted much but seems like it might be aight as a background kind of thing as you listen to music or something but ye I don't get it much

Ok, so Hogwarts is done. Ultimately while I enjoyed the game, it's strongest section is in the early part of the game, when you're first exploring the castle and Hogsmeade and getting introduced to things. It does kinda devolve into a pretty standard open-world game midway through. I liked the combat but I wish there was maybe a little more variety to it. Also, I wish there was a little more depth to some of the other activities. I'm also not sure that the Diablo-esque loot system was the way to go here.

I'd probably rate it...maybe a 7.5/10 overall. Maybe an 8 if I'm feeling really generous. I'd you're a big Harry Potter fan, add a point to that.
I'm glad you completed it lol

you've never played a Diablo game my guy, you are 100% going to play diablo 4. i let you down tremendously by never insisting we play diablo 3, one of the greatest games of all time. that mistake won't happen again. it's gonna be the GOAT co-op experience. gotta make sure both controllers will be charged tho when we play.

you have liked plenty of diablo clones like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath back in the day which are 1:1 clones of Diablo games. they are great games to turn on music and chill to though. i often look for games where sound isn't that important so i can blast my own tunes. that doesn't mean the game isn't that engaging. risk of rain 2 is one where i'll do this and that game is the definition of engaging. it's just sound isn't that important, enemies spawn around you all the time so you're always shooting shit.

This The Finals beta has been kind of a blast.

They just mashed together all the popular games. overwatch power ups and interface is lifted. bad company 2 style destruction. movement feels snappy like cod. apex legends style money mechanic and 3 people teams with lots of grappling hooks. Really pretty too considering how much destruction there is. Like a box you're trying to find in the house is under a rubble because there's no more house there anymore and it's been blown to smithereens. 3080 runs it at 60-75fps with rtx on.

It was weird, the native PS5 version of Solar Ash definitely did have some framerate issues at launch, but running the PS4 version on PS5 through BC ran smooth as butter (albeit at a lower resolution). They have since patched the performance on PS5 though.

As for Kena, I don't necessarily agree with the statement that RE VIII has far better graphics. It has a more REALISTIC graphical style, whereas Kena is highly stylized and cartoonish, but Kena is still absolutely stunning visually. It's hard to say which one is more impressive on a technical level because the style is so different.

Having said that, the RE Engine does seem to be remarkably efficient and well-optimized. Capcom definitely has that shit dialed-in.

Sorc is always my favorite so I’ll prob go that, but some of the spell animations looked underwhelming

I always think I’ll like barb but they’re always boring

The rogue looks, I dunno, kind of silly imo so far

so bros i think i may beat my first newish resident evil game(re7)

i powered through my shook boi feelings and according to the ign guide table of contents(i’m using no guide just wanted to see how far along i am) i’m at roughly the halfway point, maybe a bit past it

the anxiety wore off and now i’m sort of decked out with ammo and repaired guns and shit and now if i see one of those duke monsters i blast a mfer and just keep on going.

for me, having never played one all the way through, the problem solving and puzzles are fun as shit. reminds me loosely of how zelda works. you come across a gap you can’t cross or a door you can’t enter and pass it about fifty times and you finally get the item and now you’re sort of giddy to see what’s behind this previously blocked area

super cool experience. i may just play 8 after this or another free one if it’s available :o
