What's the best Blackhawk serpa style belt holster, and where's the cheapest place to get one?
ebay, guns shows, interwebnets in general.
They can be had for $25 if you look hard, $35 if you look at all, and $45 if you have money to burn.
More and more pistol classes I see are banning the Serpa because of idiots getting their finger in the trigger guard on the draw and putting rounds into the dirt. Couple people have been shot in the leg
Also, pins falling out of the release button, etc. I'd prefer a holster with as few parts as possible I have an MTAC right now, along with an XD Gear holster for OC/training, but if I was going to get a serious OC holster with retention, I'd look elsewhere.
Ive seen one first hand where debris got caught in the locking mechanism and we had to hammer it out with a live gun talk about fun
Gah I didn't think about that, but seems like it could happen pretty easily.
Yep we were in gravel dirt and doing drawing from the ground when he unlocked it bam bunch of gravel dirt got in it and when he put the gun in it the lock was completely fucked
I'm looking for one for front sight. I have a Safariland 070 for work and a drop leg ALS for my Glock 22 w/light, but they don't allow lights. They also didn't recomend duty holsters because there are concealed portions of the class.
I've broken to Fobus ones. Just got a serpa off ebay for $35 shipped.
I broke the shitty fobus one's I've had, and don't really wanna take leather w/thumb breaks
If it's your duty firearm, why not practice with the holster you use on a daily basis?
Good luck concealing a serpa
Aren't you a cop or something?
A SERPA is a monumentally bad idea.
IWB - Comptac MTAC
OWB - Bladetech DOH
Blade tech all the way
I love all the serpa hate from idiots NDing from improper use.
me too bro
Hey, Helen Keller commenting on art over here
bullshit. those are fucking internet rumors. do you really think that stuff actually happens?
Word bro. Fucking retards.
i do know that the locking mechanism seizes when sand/dirt/environment gets in it.
shitty holster that a lot of people hand their hats on.
i have a cheaper knockoff ... and i have had zero problems with the locking mechanism ... it works fine for me
two years and mine is still working just like the day I bought it.
I haven't shot myself in the leg either, because I know how to use the holster properly.
If, and I repeat, IF you see youself rolling around in gravel, then you might consider a different holster, but the odds of that happening are so astronomically slim, it isn't a concern for me.
It's also relative to your intended use, and actual time using it.
This is purely my perspective coming from the competitive shooting world so take it for what it's worth.
Competitive shooters will push their gear harder than most any community within the gun owning world. We are constantly on the hunt for even the most minuscule of an advantage from performance, durability and reliability standpoint. We're all natural gear geeks. I myself dry fire every day, for at minimum an hour. We will shoot and practice more than most.
IPSC and IDPA also has one of the best safety records in regards to running a control enviornment. We are very safety conceous.
If there was any advantage at all to the Serpa Holster, it would show up at more matches. From what I have observed from shooting at matches and observing some of the best do their thing, the Black hawk Serpa has almost no existence in our community. It is also a pretty general consensus, that they are not very reliable. The only guys I have ever seen in club and Major matches use Serpas, are new guys that will almost always swap them out somewhere down the line.
Take it for what it's worth, but don't feel it's an attack on the user. YMMV, just my .03 worth.
I'm actually enjoying the feedback. I'm getting a general census a Blade tech DOH is the way to go?
Also I don't want to take my duty holster because I don't want to tear up a duty belt for 4 days in the nevada sand.
I'm no longer a cop, fucking CA budget sucks.
Any feedback on ghost holsters?
Prob would get a bladetech OWB
