I *think* these exist, any one know where I could find one?
They do exist, its one of those guns I kick myself in the ass for not buying, back when 5.45 AK's first started coming in they also had the bolt rifles for like $400. I forget what they were called but they were supposedly used as sniper rifles for EG Guards at the Berlin Wall.
Haven't seen any for sale in years.
yup, found it. Looks like it isn't all that great a deal, apparently they only got like 2MOA
ah well, on to other things.
Yeah nothing special accuracy wise, Guess you dont sub MOA to pick off someone climbing a wall 100m away.
I still wish I had picked one up when they were cheap though.
yah. hell, even if it just pulled MOA with a good shooter, that would be enough, but the price and lack of accuracy have turned me off from it, even though you could get ammo for cheaper than basically any other centerfire rifle
Surely someone could modify a Mauser action and make a badass rifle, that cartridge has a lot of potential.
If you rolled your own you could probably get good accuracy out of it, my x54R reloads are alot better then the E Bloc sniper ammo I've tried.
Lack of 5.45 reloading materials makes it a bitch and not worth it though.
well, I emailed Remington about if they would ever chamber a rifle in 5.45. I'm sure if enough people asked, they would probably make one
So if you guys even remotely want a 5.45x39 bolt action rifle, take a few minutes to ask remington to make one here: http://remington.custhelp.com/cgi-b...jaF90eXBlPWFuc3dlcnMuc2VhcmNoX25sJnBfcGFnZT0x
That's really a "when pigs fly" request
Hmm, as I understand it 5.45 is dimensionally somewhat similar .222 Remington.
As far as I know Savage .223 bolt head will work with .222 Remington. So it might be as easy as buying an inexpensive Savage in .223, and having a barrel custom chambered.
how so? Rem has already shown that they actually pay attention to what their supporters want. Plus, its only that because nobody these days will take them time to just send an email.
If they made a bolt gun in it they would also need to start making ammo for it to be worth it
Exactly, plus their ammo would be more expensive than surplus, so it wouldn't sell for shit. Of course the biggest thing is that these rifles wouldn't sell in the first place, because there's a tiny, tiny demand.
so why make a bolt action in 7.62x39 then? most people are not going to be buying anything but wolf for that anyway.
Don't think any manafactuers have really made much money on x39 bolts, thats why you dont see or hear much about them.
5.45 has good potential for a bolt gun but in the end noones going to want to buy one if they have to pay $20+ a box of ammo, especially considering you can get proven results out of a 223 bolt gun for less.
I'm still not quite sure why you guys are hung up on the ammo cost. for all we know, 5.45 is great, but since nobody has made a decent rifle for 5.45 yet, we don't know.
What major manufacturer even chambers 7.62x39, because Ruger in their ranch rifles and what not?
Edit: It appears Remington actually does in their new Mauser clones, wow.
Because Remington makes ammo, and if they're going to chamber a rifle in X caliber then they're going to want to make money selling X ammo. It's simple economics, and so far 5.45 doesn't seem to be very economical, especially with the rampant availability of .223.
