there are many good mid level decks for around $200 USD. I prefer Kenwood Excelon (i think the 1st one comes in around 250usd) but you can go with pretty much anything from pioneer to eclipse, alpine, kenwood, clarion and get a pretty solid deck. you might want to consider another $100 to up your expandibility even more. better xover controls, more preamp outputs/preamp voltage.

ok ok , i'll admit that the d-mask+ radios sucked ass in the reliability dept. the ribbon cables always broke. but i've been running the kdc-x679 in my car and my truck (2 seperate radios) and haven't had an issue or defect yet (other than my dog decided to rip the faceplate and tuning knob off the one in the truck. it still works) and i've had friends that ran the KVT-911DVD TV's in their cars (3 of them) with no issues. I sold many many many Excelon radios and TVs as a salesman with no issues from any of them. just my personal experience tho. i dig 'em

I've had no problems with my Kenwood Hu's aside from the motorized face issues. But I've had lots of Pioneers with the motorized faces come back with issues lately too. If you get a HU with all kinds of motors (that hide the face when turned off, or open up to show two displays like the Pioneers from a couple years ago, etc.) then you're gonna have issues later on. Most stuff from both brands now just have motors on the faces for when you eject a CD.

Kenwood eXcelon HU's rock. Dont know how you thought of them before 2005 but they really did a good job with the new line. You can get a X889 for around $200 on eBay. LOTS of functions and options. I got a X589.

we junk more kenwood than any other brand, but it's a easy sale at the other store in town... some people like the flash, but come around when it comes to the poor quality.
