California man fails Mexican border crossing attempt in spectacular fashion

A 27-year-old male driver from Santa Ana, California, was killed after crashing into a metal barrier as he attempted to cross into the United States in a closed lane at the San Ysidro Port of Entry just after 2pm local time on Tuesday.

Prior to crashing into the barrier, the driver reportedly struck two vendors on the Mexican side of the port — a 70-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman, who was in a wheelchair.

The cause of the crash remains unclear, with an investigation ongoing.

Witnesses said the driver had been travelling at a high speed moments before the deadly impact.

You should see the barriers and Downtown Disney backstage. They have a heavy duty arm like that plus angled barriers that come up from the ground. I'm not sure a tank could get over them, at least not easily.
