Trying to setup a sol10 box with jni cards which isn't supported under sol10 anymore. I can use the cards, use the beta drivers, it sees the LDEV's from the USP, but luxadm, cfgadm, stmsboot doesn't see the HBA's.

format, iostat -En see the devices in cNtNdN format, but not the long wwid cNtNdWWID format.

Trying to specify explicit device type in the
/kernel/drv/scsi_vhci.conf, but am having no success.

Have you ever done anything like this before?

i haven't. are these sun's beta drivers or are they from the vendor? i thought the sun drivers always displayed in that horrible convention with the WWN in it.

    what does format show?

actually, before i started this job i was always using the vendor drivers along with VxVM DMP and here i've been lucky here to be working with new hardware.

    jni drivers.

the standard convention without the wwn.

vxvm dmp works fine, but i need this to work in a rac, so i has to be cluster aware. i don't have veritas cluster so i don't think that will work. when it's under veritas control only one host can use the luns without cluster HA right?

anyway, i'm just trying to setup a test rac environment with old hardware...

hmm... yeah, with VCS i've always worked with storage dedicated to a particular host. i know there is VCS clustered filesystems, but i don't know how it works with raw devices.

do you need to have alternate pathing for a test environment?

but, yeah. the sun tools only work with sun drivers. that's one annoying thing about mpxio is that you need a card that works with sun's drivers.

hmm, it was on our list of things to test, but we have a slew of standalone servers with mpxio and vxdmp and we know that works.

But we've never tested it under RAC with ASM.

Oh well, I try to figure something out...

nuttin', even tried installing san foundation for the hell of it even though 10 doesn't need it.

so i managed to talk my way into pulling some QLA2342's out of systems that were going to be re-deployed in an unknown time frame, rezoned, re-presented, and it's working now.

Ugh JNI's, we used to use them a lot years back. Got the hell off of them when they went under. Emulex cards now, can't say much for getting JNI working in Solaris 10 mpxio only setups I have using mpxio are Emulex or SUN branded Emulex.

Sounds like you got it taken care of though, Q Logic are nice cards too :o
