ART Camera recommendations

I'm not a photographer by any means, but I figured posting here would get the best answers. Originally I planned on buying a camcorder, but then I found out they take really shitty still shots. I think what I want to do now is buy a decent digital camera that takes video pretty well too.

I want a camera mostly for basic use, but I want to be able to record training/fights and take some action shots as well. I'm looking in the $400-$600 range. Any suggestions would be great.

I know allot of people love these cameras, I don't own one, and I have never used one, try reading the reviews, maybe they will help.

i've read some reviews saying people prefer the G9. the g10 is actually cheaper for some reason.

I'm leaning towards the G9 just because it can take a higher quality video, but it's at the cost of lower fps so I'm not so sure.
