So I pulled the moisture barrier off the inside of my driver door. Is there any advantage to using a thicker plastic as opposed to the thinnest shit on the market like the factory installed?

I have no idea but if it's an older car where you think you might be opening up the door on occasion thicker might prevent accidental rips and other wear and tear. Otherwise I wouldn't bother changing it.
