Back when I had my old '90 FJ1200 the only other bike I ever thought I could ever want was a CBR1100XX Blackbird. Last year a buddy of mine bought a 2000 model. Fortunately the two of us are good friends and I've had my fair amount of seat time. The bike is a drastic change of pace from my RC51. After riding the CBR and jumping on the RC the RC feels like a little toy in comparison... although, a really *mean* toy for that sick, sadistic, twisted kid your mom always prevented you from playing with as a child. I am now, always have been, and probably always will be a street rider first. As much as I love my RC51 my main irritation with the bike is that I can only go a couple of hours on it before it beats me into submission. Everything about it screams "GO FASTER." On Sunday I took the CBR out for a spin and spent a few hours on it... finished up the ride completely satisfied and feeling refreshed. The ride wasn't as exciting as the RC51 typically gives me, but more often than not when I go for a ride I'm not looking for an adrenaline rush. Not only that, but the adrenaline rush I look for from a street bike typically involves overwhelmingly quick acceleration, something the Blackbird can definitely do. Not that I don't enjoy cutting up a nice backroad, but sometimes the anxiety involved with that kind of riding on street surfaces overwhelms the enjoyment. So basically, my friend is thinking about selling his Blackbird and I've got first dibs on it. He's offered me a good deal, just like he did when I bought the RC51 from him. This would allow me to price the RC51 very aggressively to get a quick sale. This particular Blackbird is spotless; immaculate condition. So should I go for it? What would you do? Keep the RC51 or go for the Blackbird?
