what are the settings to send and recieve email from a cingular phone, v551 in particular
you have to go in and set them youself. the settings are dependent on who your email is through. try finding out your outgoing and incoming mail servers(probably smtp and pop), also if your mail uses ssl, tls, or nothing at all.
You can actually use your wireless number as your email address.
kinda. it's not quite as simple as just the wireless number, but close...
"Send and receive e-mails by using your phone's e-mail address. Your address is your 10-digit [email protected]."
Mine is my number or login at mywirelesswindow.com I think.
the instructions i listed came directly from cingular's web site.
The instructions I'm talking about came straight from my phone settings.
there are several different domains that will work. i personally favor going with the provider's web site which has more likely been updated more recently than your phone settings.
that, and "cingularme.com" is much more obvious and easier to remember than "mywirelesswindow.com".
wirelss window? what's that supposed to mean? i don't know about you, but i don't usually send messages to people's windows.
My shit came from HoFo.
HoFo > you
official cingular web site text messaging instruction page > hofo (as far as this is concerned)...
whose to say that cingular won't decide to phase out all the different domain names? you don't know if they're going to do that, so why not use the one they tell you to use now?
cingularme.com > mywirelesswindow.com
like i said though, there are multiple domain names that will all get the message to you the same way, so it doesn't really matter which one you choose. i just prefer to go with the one they tell you to use on their web site since it's reasonably safe to assume that that one will not quit working anytime soon...
[email protected] will work as well.
if you plan on using your own (road runner, etc) you'll not be able to using the outgoing host. You'll need to use one from Cingular (thought it escapes me as to what the right one is at this point, i'll see if I can find out tomorrow at work)
I use photo.mycingular.com as the outgoing and incoming host.
