looks good. too bad the olympus e-510 is better.
damnit, i JUST bought a d40 a couple weeks ago.
oh, whats the price tag on this?
Not sure, am not nikon crew.
If they can keep the price similar to the current d40 that would be considerably less than the xti, no?
i read up and it will be 800 for the kit and 730 for the body only.
i guess i'll just have to sell my d40 body and buy the D40x body. but i just spent 600 on a D40, i just don't want to lose money..
D50 > D40
there's a generalization for ya...
i can't stand when people do that.
OMG the D40 doesn't use old lenses or a top side LCD, the world is over!
the new lense technology is overwhelming me to the point where i'll just jump on the hate band wagon with everyone else because i don't know what i'm talking about!
looks nice. still think im going to go D200 when i upgrade from my workhorse D70
if i had the money at my disposal i'd buy a d200 but i'm not a professional photographer and still getting my feet wet with D-SLR photo so at this point the D40 is perfect and it takes great photos, i just don't like the feedback its getting. the new lense technology is incredible but the purists hate on it like the world is ending.
i think the D40 is a great camera
Me too, i bought mine in the beginning of January and have not one complaint. thats why i get confused as to the way people think.
the only thing i dont like about the d40 is the lack of an inbody motor. do you d40 owners miss it ?
i have a canon xt but im thinking of jumping ship
the lack of the in body motor on the d40 doesn't let you autofocus with many lenses including some of the popular primes right?
not true, if you look at the lenses available you will see that there are many. the in-lense motors ar quieter as well.
I don't miss the primes because i've never used a D-SLR with one, lol.
The D40 is also smaller and easier to hold i feel. the lenses don't hold back much. they are making new lenses for it too so the product line will always be growing; with all new technologies it takes time but people begin to come around and like whats new more than the previous products.
i guess the deal breaker is that the d50 and the other dslrs from nikon can use all the new technology as well
that is true. which sucks. some awesome lenses like the 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.4, 60mm macro, my tokina 12-24, 35 f/2...etc...all cannot be used with the d40
hell. 1 of the 4 lenses i use is AF-S..the rest are AF-D
edit: i hope some day nikon will introduce some fast AF-S primes...50 f/1.4 AF-S..that would be the SHIT
The D40x is just for people who think more megapixels = better.
No need for it.
The 55-200VR lens that comes in a kit with it is
$200 for a VR lens =
stop being so pussy hurt about megapixels. 60% more is a very useful improvement as long as they dont skimp on other things which hurt IQ.
It's not worth it.
Okay, but thats a different issue entirely.
"Slower default ISO: only ISO 100 compared to D40's ISO 200. This can lead to images blurred from subject or camera motion or reduced depth of field. The higher-speed sensor of the D40 allows the excellent results at ISO 200 while the less sensitive sensor of the D40x requires ISO100 for the same thing."
ISO 100 is hardly a downside...It's not like they removed it from the D40x.
wtf is that about the iso?
i dont think it comes w/ a 55-200 kit lens
