get wininet.dll from a working computer
boot your pc to safe mode
    go to c:\windows\system32
rename wininet.dll to wininet_old.dll or something
copy the new one to that directory
    reboot

 I ran a quick google search on this and it said to run a system restore...

If this is your work PC and you have an IT dept, I'd recommend talking to them.

    it's just IE's extensions library.
a rollback (system restore) or an unmolested copy of the file should fix this.
a registry tweak/cleaner might also be needed.

if none of those work,... it's a trojan.

what reg cleaner did you use? try ccleaner or regcure.

you can also google and download wininet.dll, this is risky though,... make sure you scan it first.

your anti-virus should have picked it up if it's trojan. if it didn't, use a different anti-v.

Honestly, if this is a work computer you're just going to piss then off more by continuing to futz with it. Call IT and admit you screwed up. It is tough, but I'd rather someone be up front with me than try to hide things and end up with a real mess on my hands.

If a trojan caused this, what you're experiencing could be the antivirus having quarantined a file, leaving a malware screaming for it's dll file.
