Got one coming up in two days. It will be indoors and evening. No idea what the lighting is going to be like yet, but I will be going in there a couple of hours early just to get a look.

There will be speakers, delegations and audience.

Any advice?

OH, I have the 5DMKII, 70-200 f4L, 50mm 1.4, 16-35 f 2.8L, 100mm f2.8L macro.

Lighting I have the 580ex, a remote trigger and shoot through umbrella, plus a reflector.

I imagine I won't be able to use off-camera flash and accessories...

Since you can't use off camera light, I would set the 5D to ISO 3200 or 6400 and bounce your 580 behind or to the side. If that isn't giving you enough fill light, then use a bounce card on the flash.

This pic was shot at 6400. I just used a little Lightroom noise reduction.

If the pic is to be printed, high ISO noise is reduced massively too.

It might look dodgy at 100% but after a resize or printing it can look fine

fast lenses -- i often shoot indoor events and coudlnt live without my primes -- i imagine youll be using the 16-35 and 50 a lot, unless you need the reach then the 70-200 with high ISO.

for flash -- if i can even use it -- it's usually just on-camera with bounce.

generally, the speakers will be well lit by a spot on the podium or following them around the stage, so it's not hard to get a good exposure of a single speaker. Panels might be tricky though.
