I am trying to simplify my entertainment system and I noticed on my Onkyo receiver there is a port labled RI (remote interactiv). I believe this enables me to use this to connect other devices so that I can turn them all off at once.

Is that really what it is used for???

Also, I noticed that there is a AC input where I would simingly be able to put the power plug of a devise right into the other.

... Are these ways of allowing me to turn off all devices all at once. And, are there any other ways of doing this.

I dont know about the R1 port, but I do know the switched outlet will work fine, but they are often times limited to around an ampere of current draw across them, so that limits what and how many devices you can connect.
