Have you or anyone else you know ever been to couples therapy? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
If you're married with kids then I say you should try it. If you've been with a girl for a year and you've already got crazy drama then I say forget it and move on.
As mentioned, married with kids = yes
g/f = there's too many fish in the sea.
imo if a couple is in therapy together, they should also be going to individual therapy
Get a good licensed psychologist. He'll have to evaluate you guys and after a couple of sessions (2 to 5) he'll have to tell you his opinion on what the problem could be related to. You'll be able to decide what to do then. If you guys have personal problems to deal with instead of real couple problems, he should be able to tell you.
As far as therapy goes, it pretty much depends on the participation and motivation of both people.
Thanks for the comments. I appreciate all input- good or bad. My now ex bf and i both decided that we wanted to get couples therapy. We have extensive communication problems but both agree that we love each other enough to follow through with the therapy. We also both agreed we needed to be apart from each other until we feel ready. I think therapy can bring nothing but positivity and hope.
Wish I would have gone.
We're not married but we're in couples therapy. It has been extraordinarily helpful. Communications problems are most often the root of problems between two people in a relationship.
You've made a very wise decision. I recommend seeking a female therapist.
I tried it with my ex. All it really did was prolong the inevitable.
