Got bored this morning so I decided to try an "ad" type of photo.
two words ... soft box
plus small spot for background, plus better seamless background plus move subject farther out from said background plus make sure flame is visable against background.
black background would have worked better for this pic... the flame would have been more visable.
Try doing a longer shutter in the dark.
I took this like 3 years ago at a party, flaming dr peppers
He simply needs to build in more contrast between the flame and the backgroud with the lighting. You have to have light to illluminate the subject, it's all a question of how much and where the light falls that makes or breaks a picture.
Awesome. Thanks for the advice guys. At first I was like "fuck, it looked so good to me before" but then I saw what you guys meant. Do you guys have the link to the thread some guy made about building your own box for these types of shots? It was like 2 months ago or something. I'll prob. re-shoot it under lower light with a black background and the 50mm f/1.8 again. The shutter speed was actually relatively slow for this shot (I used a tripod) but I'll keep trying. This shot was done with natural light from the window in my room so I was pushing it.
not sure if this is the one you were talking about but a friend of mine just built this one and it works great.
I'm not sure if this was it, I dont think it is. To be honest, I didn't pay too much attention to it cause I dont normally do these types of shots but I'm gonna build this one. Thanks
I think the cap is too small for what you want. doesn't feel dramatic enough, to me.
Yeah, Im using a shotglass next time
