Looks like The Feed and SiS are now conjoined and more expensive than before, ugh. What high-carb gels are you bros into?
I don't do gels. Just Peanut M&Ms. Like an obscene amount. People ask me when they notice how often I buy them if they are all for me. "No, I give my wife a handful" is my canned response if you have the balls to ask me shit like that.

I'm really wanting to check out one of those Canyon gravel bikes, but the build I want is about $5500K :oopsie:

I've got three bikes currently - a hard tail mtb (Salsa Timberjack), a goofy (but awesome) single speed CX bike (Bianchi Roger), and my default commuter normal every day rider a, Fuji Cross 3.0 that I've had forever and have put tens of thousands of miles on.

The problem is that my Fuji is the only practical bike for everyday riding but it's all aluminum and it's harsh as fuck (especially on surfaces I find myself on). It was my first "real" bike and I love it and all, but I'm just kinda over it at this point.

I really want something that can handle rough pavement / gravel with ease and sits a bit more upright, but still has drops, and something a little different than my other CX bikes.

My wallet is telling me no, but my body, my body is telling me yes.
That Bianchi is a cool bike.

Don't get me wrong, I'm always a fan of spending money for more bike stuff. But don't be surprised if switching from aluminum to carbon makes less of a difference than a better pair of bibs, gel under the bar tape, and/or sizing up & airing down tires.

I prefer Sour Patch Kids myself. I think I've got 3 pounds worth sitting on my kitchen counter right now.

Still have some left over GUs and honey stingers but I plan on making a mixture in these little reusable pouches we have for our kids soon.

Edit: literally every GU and Honey Stinger, Clif, all with and without caffeine. I think the only one I haven’t liked was a Coca Cola flavor

Maybe with a concentrated Skratch labs potion or a syrup, maltodextrine, flavor drop concoction.

I’m sure Reddit has some recipes for stuff like that with some short and long acting carbs that tastes good.

Honestly the premade GU type stuff isn’t horrible on the wallet because I only need a couple a week. It’s just the thought of paying for sugar that kills me but they really are so convenient.

Had a blast riding with a guy who’s better than me today.

Getting a lot more comfortable on the fast and steep stuff and I like being with someone else on the black diamonds in case the worst happens.

Had my best mtb week with close to 5hrs, 35 miles and 5700 feet climbing

I love the Bianchi, it's my most favorite bike ever!

I appreciate the advice and I agree that what you're saying is more practical and certainly more wallet-friendly, but I'm just kinda tired of the Fuji at this point. It has treated me really well, but I prob have over 50K miles on it and I got that old N+1 hankering going on. Call it an appetizer for my upcoming mid-life crisis :big grin:

New Bike Day!

Trek Domane SLR 9 etap IMG_0974.jpeg

I ordered this through their "Project One" program, which allows you to customize what you want. For example, this paint mix is not offered on their regular Domane models. I also change the wheels from 33 to 51. when the tires come in they will swap them for me for a tan/brown wall which I think goes well with the color of the bike.

groupset is SRAM Red. this is my first bike with electronic shifting. crank also has a power meter built in that I'll have to figure out how to use.

looking forward to some fun riding this long weekend!!!

** edit -- my wife just saw my new bike and said "you paid all that money for custom paint to make it look like a battery?" LOL

@beetle looks rad - I actually like the deep wheels with the black tires, looks stealthier.

Power Meter is just techie toys, but i enjoy dorking out on my stats.

So SiS merged with another co? I'm trying to decipher what the fuck is going on there?
I have been using SiS for awhile, I like them better than HAMMER and GU.

You can only buy their stuff through The Feed. SiS frequently did sales but I guess that is over and you can basically only buy ale carte? Previously a 30 pack of gels cost me $40 and now it's $55. Their Noontropics stuff is now more cost reasonable comparing $/CH, though. 46g CH is $2 with the black wrapper stuff; 22g CH for $1.85 with the classic Go gels.

Whoa, is anyone running TPU tubes?

I just found out about them, 70% lighter than butyl? More puncture resistant?

So what's the hotness in lubes? I have a few riding buddies who are convinced I'm not getting enough miles out of my chains. I use RNR Blue for CX/MTB and RNR Gold for road. I get 700-1,000 miles on CX (wet rides wreck it), usually get a new MTB before I wear those out but got 1,700 on my latest, and 2.5-3k on road.

My cleaning method is grabbing the chain with a towel, pedaling backwards, lube, repeat towel process. Most of my mtb rides are 2-3+ hours so I wipe/lube every ride. CX every 3-4 hours of riding unless it's wet. Road is every 4-5 hours. I feel like I'm pretty on top of it :dunno:

Is it possible to enjoy riding in the Tampa area? We have a family condo down there but it looks like it would take hours to get away from stop and go traffic.

Buddy of mine lives in St. Pete's and averages 7-8k per year.

Might be able to see some routes/riders from that area in these clubs:
