Buddy of mine lives in St. Pete's and averages 7-8k per year.

Might be able to see some routes/riders from that area in these clubs:

LOL I scrolled the Tampa Bay recent rides on strava and was like 100 feet, 200 feet.. LOL Florida, then I see one dude rocking 5ks, he's in Mexico this week.

So what's the hotness in lubes? I have a few riding buddies who are convinced I'm not getting enough miles out of my chains. I use RNR Blue for CX/MTB and RNR Gold for road. I get 700-1,000 miles on CX (wet rides wreck it), usually get a new MTB before I wear those out but got 1,700 on my latest, and 2.5-3k on road.

My cleaning method is grabbing the chain with a towel, pedaling backwards, lube, repeat towel process. Most of my mtb rides are 2-3+ hours so I wipe/lube every ride. CX every 3-4 hours of riding unless it's wet. Road is every 4-5 hours. I feel like I'm pretty on top of it :dunno:

Not sure, I do basically the same as you. I use ProGold Pro Link. I did commuting for years (all-weather in CO) and would get about 1500-2000 miles off a chain no matter what lubing method I tried. I experimented and tried wet, dry, wax, even one of those cleaning gadgets with a crank, always degreasing, never degreasing, etc. I rode pretty hard but not super aggressive (never got into CX or anything like that, just tons of commuting and chasing some Strava KOMs). In the end I just stuck with what's simple. ProGold is decent enough at cleaning if my chain is pretty grimy, and it's a good enough lube for what I do. Really, the only reason I use it is because years ago I found a good deal on buying it in bulk so I had a shitload of it, hah.

tubeless. :naughtyd:
Maybe I was just too far ahead of the curve with road tubeless. Tried it 4 or 5 years back, had a terrible experience, and went back to tubes. It seemed like it was really unreliable at higher pressures (80+psi). Have the kinks been worked out?

I've been running tubeless on my MTB since about 2015, and I'll never go back.

I've had 3 punctures seal fine on the road :dunno: Maybe it was the tires back then...?

I used Squirt for a year or so and it was awesome in all conditions. This one, Smoove, was well reviewed and I found it's even less gunky and thinner. Both are waxy and I could probably get by lubing 1/3 as often but recently with the rain, I like getting all the dirt and sand off after every ride. Chains are pretty much spotless before I ride again. Road bike can just get a wipe every couple rides and the wax makes the dirt easy to wipe off.

I've been wiping the chain every ride or blasting with water when I clean the bike because it's been so muddy. Run the chain through a wet towel and let it dry completely. Lube and never wipe after.

I got that muc off chain cleaner machine and its legit amazing. COuple of turns and my chain looks clean as hell, then dry for a few, reapply dry lube, wipe off excess and ready for tomorrows group ride!

Also, i waxed a new chain

$30 per flat sounds terrible.
They claim TPU is more puncture resistant. I rarely get flats, usually it’s because my tires are worn and crap is getting through.

Or at the very least buying one of these things to use as the on-bike spare…they are like 1/3 the size of a regular tube

Yeah I’ve heard a lot about Squirt but it’s hard to know with online reviews unless people have the same riding/cleaning conditions you do.

I use it for all bikes, it's great. Long lasting, quiet, stays very clean, and it's easy to remove with Zep purple degreaser.

Just had a hell of a time mounting some specialized mtb tires. Way harder than any GP5ks I’ve done.

First one took a half hour for me to finally start at opposite end to get every bit of slack toward the last part of the bead.

Was imagining working at a bike shop doing handstands on the wheel in my underwear trying to get the last part of the bead over.

Road tubeless is harder to set up IME, they’re just sooo tight

And 80 is too high. Iirc we are about the same weight and I run 60 :o

I think you have the newer model of the 5000 TL than I do. Not sure if there's a width variance but mine measure almost exactly 30mm, big ass tires. 23mm was the norm when I started riding ~10 years ago
