Fatass here - I have extended my 4 mile rides from back in November into ~17-20 mile rides now and it's great! Except for:

There's literally only one path near my house and I know that mother-effer like the back of my hand, and it's getting old. Roads are out of the question because the roads near me resemble a war zone, and the people around here really REALLY hate cyclists. I have actually been threatened twice from motorists while I was on the MUP that runs parallel with a road - and not while I was crossing or whatever, dipshits have yelled threatening shit while driving right up next to me.

I'm originally from Colorado and back during my first cycling craze that's where I was living and the cycling scene out there was much MUCH better and there are great paved bike paths that go pretty much wherever you want, and if I had to ride the streets the people were mostly accepting, I definitely miss it!

Anyway, still going strong, I'll have to figure something out, like driving to other MUPs, just wish I didn't have to drive just to ride.

driving to rides blows. I just did a strava heatmap in your proximity and yea, that looks desolate for safe/well used routes. Be safe.

People who don't ride bikes don't believe the unsolicited murder threats we frequently receive.

Oh yeah, for sure, Or worse, they think those threats are justified.

"you mean you very mildly inconvenienced a person in an air conditioned box that takes almost zero effort to move, and you caused them to have to turn their steering wheel 10 degree to the left briefly, and then 10 degrees back to the right, just to get around you? Well yeah, that is certainly deserving of being murdered, I don't see the problem here!"

Luckily this is just a temporary situation and I'll be out of here pretty shortly. The silver lining, if you can call it that, is that I have 24 "local legends" on Strava and as much as I ride this same shit over and over, I might be "legendary" for eternity! I started getting these within a couple weeks of riding, and I've been going at it for months now!

Ha I know the feeling. Only way I get Straps kudos is from riding segments more than other people. But hey, that's some good bragging rights.

Sorry to say though, is that Local Legend status is based in a rolling 90day period. Once you stop riding as much, someone else can take over....even with fewer rides than you achieved historically

Ah, damn, I didn't know that. Well, I'll be a legend for 90 days after I leave this shit hole! It doesn't quite have the same ring as "eternity", but hey.

So I've been thinking of replacing my '14 cannondale supersix di2....it's starting to show its age and in the past year Ive had to replace the front derailleur mount and the crank bearings. Ever since I replaced the last chain I havent been able to get the shifting as smooth as I'd like. There are apparently no new di2 11sp groupsets being sold at reasonable prices and there is no clear/easy way to buy a new di1 12sp groupset upgrade on that frame and wheelset.

Is there a better deal out for a di2/electronic shifting aero road bike than this canyon? It even comes with a built in power meter. Their DTC sales method is attractive to me because the closest LBS to me is about an hour away and I dont really have experience dealing with any of them. https://www.canyon.com/en-us/road-bikes/aero-bikes/aeroad/cf-slx/aeroad-cf-slx-8-disc-di2/3052.html?dwvar_3052_pv_rahmenfarbe=BK/BK&dwvar_3052_pv_rahmengroesse=L

Some people say not to buy a new bike until the economy slows down because stuff is overpriced right now, but Im not sure I see prices dropping anytime soon.

Edit: they have one with Force AXS available in may for $6,500. But there are a lot of options in the $6k range with new framesets, electronic shifting and carbon wheels. Scott Foil, Orbea Orca Aero, Rubble Ultra SLR,

It's not. There are a bunch of minor differences that lack the polish of Shimano like front mech shifting, different brake feel that I don't care for which allows for more lever travel, I dislike broke fluid in bicycles, and dear God the SRAM shifter rattle. Shimano, however, may still have a bit of a chain drop problem with 12 speed, but the brake feel is quite good and less pad brushing the rotor. Shimano rotors are also thicker so they last longer and feel a little better.

It's done! For now I'm just swapping wheels off of other bikes, but I'm really happy with the way this one turned out. Still need to do some tweaks with the saddle and bars, but I'm super stoked that I was able to get the drivetrain dialed in really easily. I spent way less time fussing with this SRAM setup vs getting Shimano dialed in. Maybe I got lucky. Gonna try to do some miles on it tomorrow if the weather cooperates.

Looks great, nice restomod. Those bars though....do you normally ride with them tilted back so much?

You want a ferrule for sure. Rather I meant the housing itself. Sram uses a 1:1 pull ratio so it is very picky with any friction. If the housing ‘bends’ as it enters the barrel adjuster you can have indexing that never quite sets up right

Ah, gotcha. Everything is pretty straight and wide-sweeping. The cable stop on the chainstay is a bit gakked up though and so far hasn't presented an issue, but it also looks like it's just epoxied on there if I should need to change it. The housing doesn't **quite** fit into it and rather than taking a file/drill bit to an unknown part I've got it just kind of jammed in there for now. It works, but it's probably not *right.*

Don’t want to spend over $2k initially since I’m already busy with a 7 month old and lifting weights/peloton during free time, but would like to dip my toes in and possibly dive in when I have more time assuming I like it (imagine I would since I enjoy the peloton)
