Don’t want to spend over $2k initially since I’m already busy with a 7 month old and lifting weights/peloton during free time, but would like to dip my toes in and possibly dive in when I have more time assuming I like it (imagine I would since I enjoy the peloton)
You may not like the sound of this, but you need to budget at least $500 for:
1) clothing - bibs for sure $80 absolute minimum, jerseys you can cheap out on
2) helmet
3) lights and head unit
4) shoes and pedals

Its easy to top $1k on this stuff, but $500 is doable

It's done! For now I'm just swapping wheels off of other bikes, but I'm really happy with the way this one turned out. Still need to do some tweaks with the saddle and bars, but I'm super stoked that I was able to get the drivetrain dialed in really easily. I spent way less time fussing with this SRAM setup vs getting Shimano dialed in. Maybe I got lucky. Gonna try to do some miles on it tomorrow if the weather cooperates.

Could I also like swap on some toe cages on a bike like that for short commutes? Everything around me is less than a mile or two so would be quick errands

Try to find a used 5-10 year old carbon frame bike that has no major issues that's close to your size (dont get anything ancient from the 90s or early 00's). Use that to acclimate yourself to riding and see if you will stick with it before you go out and buy something more specific. I started riding on a 5 year old carbon fuji granfondo with 105 components that I paid $800 for and loved it, but it was a tad too small for me so my next bike was in a bigger size and I stepped up to electronic shifting.

you're right of course, but sometimes you get lucky and someone is getting out of the hobby, passed away etc. and will sell their gear in bulk for pennies. I did that when I got rid of my crotch rocket to keep myself from ever getting another one lol.

If Strava was a person I'd straight up punch it in the face right now. I just took the Cadex out on a shakedown ride, rode my fucking BALLS off because everything felt so goddamn good this evening and when I hit "finish" on my ride it logged it as an hour of fucking TABLE TENNIS. THE FUCK.

I think you can change the exercise type on the website (probably the app as well, not sure).

You can get a decent aluminum gravel bike from Cannondale for just a little more.

Damn I was dead serious about spending like half of that on my first bike 2 years ago and now I'm on my fourth

Hope you like it as much as we do. It's been a fun 2 years

I thought I was saving money on bikes by buying shitbox used frames until I learned that like 80% of the price of a bike is in the fucking groupset and wheelset.

So got my second bike fit then rode to bike shop for new bar tape install. Was raining too hard to enjoy it but looks good. Still not happy with the steerer tube cover

I may need to email Lake Cycling Shoes since the people designing their CX shoes clearly does not race in CX, while they offer the only shoe-shape that I love.

Man boys, a couple rides have left me sore. Yesterday's was tough. Might not do VO2 tomorrow might do long ass 3hr Z2 trainer ride. Might do some Tempo at the end or something.
