About five years ago I was riding with three old guys in the middle of nowhere. A super wealthy resident guy rolled up next to us, nosed us in, and got out of the truck with a gun yelling that he was trying to protect his family.

People are fucking ridiculous. I have had guns threatened to be pulled but haven't had one actually pulled on me yet. I'm not the type to carry, but all these incidents are kinda making me consider it. I think I mentioned it here before, but one guy said if he sees me ever again he's going to murder me and throw me in a ditch. I purposefully went for the lightest traffic route I could (basically neighborhood side streets with like 1 car every 2-3 mins) just to avoid getting in the way, but people have a really hard time dealing with turning their steering wheel 10 degrees to the left briefly, and then 10 degrees back to the right.

I can't even ride on a damn bike path without being harassed!

"GET ON A SIDEWALK AND STAY OFF THE STREET!"

"Alright, fine, you're too dangerous, I'll just ride the same old MUP every day and you won't have to deal with it"

"I'M STILL MAD!"

I hate to get on the soap box again, but god damn why are people so shitty?

Yet AGAIN I got horn-blasted by another asshole last night, so I did the universal "wtf" gesture and he turned around so he could start blasting me in the face with his high beams, just for the sake of being an absolute dick.

The thing is, I'm not even doing any street riding (last time I did that it was a nightmare and another asshole literally threatened my life). I'm simply riding on a MUP that runs parallel to the street and I guess some people are so incredibly triggered just by the sight of someone on a bike that they can't help themselves.

I have had more enraged motorist incidents in the last 3 months, while not even riding on streets, than I had in CO with years of cycling on the streets.

This shit is getting really old. I miss CO, why did I ever leave you!?

I got cut off by a dude making an illegal u-turn across a couple lanes of traffic and he swung wide into the bike lane to pull into a parking lot just as I was coming off a downhill sprint doing at least 30 mph. I slammed the brakes on and just managed to miss hitting him. He must have seen what had happened at the end because he also saw me turn around to give him a piece of my mind. He got out of his Cayenne ( ) and straight up SPRINTED into the building before I could get back to him. I was fucking HEATED.

I will never understand the logic here. Even if you were in the road, and they had to drive 3 feet around you, who cares? It took zero time out of their day to have encountered you.

I've never ridden in Colorado, but I imagine it's fairly similar to Utah. People just seem to accept the fact that they will encounter people riding their bikes, and just manage it like a sane, rational person.

I’ve posted about this in the main forum and get blasted for it. People just hate cyclists pure and simple.

I don’t get it… people will walk their dogs off the leash here (illegal) and make rude comments to me asking why I have to ride my bike on the trails (not illegal)… like wtf are you thinking?

I ride mostly rural roads south and/or west of Tulsa, rarely have any issues at all fortunately. Really the most common problems are loose dogs.

Yeah, the homeless and their dogs are the biggest threat here. Our greenway is amazing so it’s pretty much all I ride on my road bike but there’s a homelessy part of town I have to ride through to get to it. Had 2 homeless try to sneak up on me, presumably to rob me, one chase my wife, one ride his bike out of the bushes right in front of me and I hit him and it broke my frame, a few sliced tires from their broken glass, and been bit twice on the shoes by their dogs.

There are a couple major problems.

First, infrastructure for cyclists in this country is largely trash (with a few exceptions). The way we have to mix with traffic is quite insane in a lot of areas, or we have to mix with pedestrians on MUPs.

Second, motorists need to realize that we all break traffic laws, it's just that cyclists and motorists tend to break different laws. Yes, cyclists often blow through stop signs/lights (which is what they complain about most), but motorists also break a bunch of laws, like texting while driving, speeding, etc.

I don't think that motorists realize that we often blow lights/stops because it actually helps maintain the flow of traffic. During the first year when I started commuting years ago I tried following all the laws all the time, but I quickly learned that if there's one thing motorists hate more than me blowing a light, it's me being stopped and then slooooowly coming back up to speed (relative to them) with a line of traffic behind trailing behind. You really can't win either way.

That's so fucking true.
I pulled up at a light once and some twat pulls up next to me and through a bunch of change at me, it kind of hurt (that's happened twice so far), he flipped me the bird and sped off yelling at me to "quit slowing traffic down".
I swear same dude, same intersection, I made a right turn on red and didn't stop and he runs me down in his truck screaming at me (I don't honestly know if it was the same dude, but it was the same type of truck) to stop running red lights. I had a guy throw a cup of coke at me once, he missed and then almost wrecked his car.

I had a dude in CO once when I was climbing swan mountain throw a bunch of change at me as I was climbing the hill screaming at me to "fuck off bitch".

Damn! I haven't had change thrown at me yet. Worst was a glass beer bottle, but thankfully it missed. I've had sauce packets thrown at me a couple times, and a fast food bag full of trash once.

First time mtbing clipless was horrible and awesome. Time Speciale 8 pedals.

Angle was all off at first (feel like spd float doesn't have as much resistance), cleats shifted a little, tightened then stripped cleat nut, thankfully there are 4 holes so I could keep riding. edit: need a replacement cleat plate/nut for my shoes

Only fell/tipped over once.

Overall it's awesome not having to adjust my foot position because I'm always fumbling to get my feet just right on my flats. Downside is not being able to step out as fast but think I should get better with time. I'll probably keep alternating for a while but looking forward to doing some long rocky descents where my feet would sometimes bounce out of place. Probably going to buy better flats because I just wanted super light but don't grip like Oneups.
