just wondering what the majority does.
I don't toss a belt on till 365 or so. For reference my 1rm is 455.
I usually go beltless unless I'm going for a max pull
i dont own a belt
i use a belt on all my working sets. I'd wear a belt to compete, why not replicate it.
Don't own one, and I'm not really big enough to use one either way. My last max was 235x2.
whatever you say
the thing is that if you always train with a belt, your body grooves your motor and motion patterns differently. Then, if you ever train without the belt, your risk of injury is significantly increased.
never have used a belt, never on max attempts either.
The first time I ever used a belt for DL's I had already been pulling over 500 without one for quite some time.
Now I use it for new max attempts or in the 90%+ range.
I don't use a belt, but anything above 275 I use straps
fag, get a better grip...
I know chicks who can pull more then that without straps.
my right grip is horrible. I sprained my wrist like 5 years ago playing basketball and it's never been the same
I use the wrist roller 3 times a week, but my forearms and wrist are girly
Just keep working on it, but if you continue to use straps its only going to get worse. Spraining your wrist is just an excuse, 5 years is more then enough time for it to heal.
Here's a question.
I work out with 5x5s deadlifting at 185. I hang clean after deads on back day with 135 for 5x5s. I can't keep my grip worth a damn on the hang cleans and end up having to put straps on so I don't drop the bar. I can do shrugs or anything else with more weight and don't have a single problem, but something about the movment of hang cleans makes the bar want to come out of my hands.
What grip workouts can I do to help get away from the straps? That's the only time I ever use them. Without them I end up having to go down or I drop the bar mid clean by the third or fourth set.
cleans should be performed first anyway
learn how to use a "hook grip", if it's wanting to come out of your hands also try using some chalk ( I know most gyms dont allow it but be discret about it and you'll be fine)
thanks. my max for dl is 295 (I'm a n00b) and I only use straps on dl. I can get 275 up w/o them but it's the regrip that kills me. after the 3rd rep, my right grip is gone
learn how to hook grip, it'll hurt for a week or so but then your grip will take off
I've never used a belt personally, it was recommended to me though.
i hurt my back not wearing a belt, you bet your ass i'll be wearing one from now on for all my heavy sets
but my belt doesnt fit me anymore.
my form is great on regular deads and sldls, i've had a lot of coaching
i was trying romanians for the first time, and the bar kept trying to roll away from me on the regrip... i'm sure i was just a little out of alignment for one and it fucked me up. belt probably would have helped
but the doc says there's no way that's would have caused the damage i have, it was probably preexisting and i just never knew about it until that
