I want to buy it, but honestly not sure d3 was fun for a bit but d2r is a lot better in my opinion. And this one I just feel like it will be more like d3.. I'll wait and see how the reviews go.

i had the opposite experience, i loved D3 so much (after Reaper of Souls released) that i just could not even begin to get into D2R. the itemization in D2 is so dated and horrible, finding gear for your build is way too hard making it deeply unsatisfying. also +skills just is not interesting. levels on skills at all is not interesting, nor is locking you into choices you made while leveling. leveling should be used to experiment and not be penalized for that. it feels a lot more restrictive gameplay wise because you'll typically build yourself around a single ability you spam constantly, whereas D3 forces 6 abilities, a lot of times you're gonna have passives there and some builds are absolutely built around spamming the same thing endlessly (i avoid those builds like the plague, they literally put me to sleep), but i still found it a lot more engaging and less passive.

also shared loot is a dealbreaker in this day and age. that alone made it so i would not play online which is the biggest draw of this type of game, cooperative multiplayer. if it's local that's fine, but online? no way. people hoover up all the loot so melee classes have a hidden +stat to steal all the loot and then state that it's for their alts.

shared loot made auto-pickers 100% required in D2 :o

I agree with everything you said but for me I still enjoy d2 more. I have good built characters and over 1000 paragon levels and my characters were not just pressing a single skill (fire bell monk for example of a single button press) but I found the GR grind boring for solo play. I could play and find good items but if they were not for my build I may as well throw them away because unless I made another character. I enjoy the grind of finding rare items or things I can trade for things I need to better my characters. Then they added primals, so now I get to grind all over again for the same items but a different color. It just felt like if I didn't play a ton I was always going backwards because of new items, set changes etc and got annoying in my opinion.

Lots of rambling but end of the day I like trading, I like open loot grab fest (I play a lot of solo) and I like 20 years of patches and balancing and knowledge to grind for items.

i just logged onto each season that i played (about 10 i think) and finished the seasonal journey and then i'd lose interest until the next season. i'm not really about grinding for marginal increases so i can do one more greater rift tier. i'd generally be build complete with mostly good pieces by the end but pushing GRs to get on leader boards isn't very interesting to me. def didn't really do more than one character a season (i think i did the first season).

What class are y'all starting with? I remember D1 I started with the Mage, D2 Sorc, D3 Wizard. I'll probably keep the trend and go sorc.

I wish the beta was open for a whole week so I could try all the classes

I like melee, d2 was big on pally and sorc, then d3 was mostly monk and sorc...

I'm thinking druid, but still not sold.
