Well, I'm looking into DirectTV as an alternative to AT&T Broadband's astronomical monthly cable bill. I found a receiver and satellite on Amazon for $50 or so.

Questions:
(1) What are the requirements for HDTV? Is there a special kind of dish I need to get?
(2) Is it a requirement for the dish to face the southern sky?
(3) Where can I obtain an H card?

Thanks :blue:

Just to let you know all you need is the Directv HDTV combo box find them all over Ebay.
Make sure you get a plus receiver and a elipical dish.
H cards are a dying breed

DTV only broadcast two or three channels in HDTV 1080 line format everything else is 500 lines of res.

Sat dish points SW around 210 degrees

I used to have DirecTV when I lived in the Chicago burbs. It wasn't bad. When I move I'm getting FiOS for sure though.

DirecTV works really well with H cards. My roommate's dad programs them all the time, so if they ever get zapped, we just run to his house and reprogram it.
