Because a used 545i with 30k miles is only like $25k
I've noticed 5 and 7 series BMWs being insanely cheap around here too. Just wouldn't want to buy something that could possibly be extremely expensive to fix.
At the dealer the parts are expensive but a lot of independent parts stores are very cheap, cheaper than GM, Toyota, etc.
5, 6 and 7 series generally sell for pretty cheap used.
3-series are hit or miss.
if you're a mechanic, look up the parts costs....
its the gas prices now. Before, it was the people that couldnt afford them new, that bought those cars. That same group id not looking to blow cash on a car + gas. Civic hatch prices are going up. So are VW's.
bought mine for 45 a year ago, can sell for 37 all day(335i)
fuck, if I was out of college and had a job I'd snatch one up in a heartbeat for that price
Those places get their parts from BMW dealers.
Less than a 50% drop in value over 4 years. Not bad.
What kind of truck are you looking at?
So you are saving maybe 3-4 percent on parts and having to deal with a shady ass independent that will fight your parts warranty if that part breaks again.
installing some parts isnt the problem; it's when you get into the parts that interact with the DME or other electronic doodads is when you start having a problem, adn you end up having to get it taken or towed to the dealer anyway.
and there are more electronics than ever with each new generation.
engines/chassis/mechanicals aren't the problem with BMWs; the electronics and other such things are what most have problems with.
Do you work in the business?
THEN SHUT THE FUCK UP.
Word...those doodads can be a motherfucker.
no kidding. the only problems i've had with BMWs is usually electronic; my M3 had some SMG problems early on...tail lights...and that's probably it; cousins E36 had some electronic problems as well; same with my GF's X3, and her two brother's e90 and e92's.
shut ur mouth mr m3, 335i will walk you all day! man the fuck up and get a real m car
Seriously, son. You have no idea how many customers I have come through that have had problems with an independent wanting a copay, or not warrantying a part in any way because they bought it through the independent but didn't have it installed there.
