My wife has been suffering from weird neck/back nerve pain for a few years now, starts in her neck and radiates out to the rest of her body, she gets pins/needles in her hands/feet pretty often. We've made rounds after round of Dr visits in the US and here in MX and no one can figure out wtf is wrong with her. During all these rounds she was diagnosed with a thyroid issue and takes hormones to try and get her levels balanced out. She has been feeling pretty decent for the past year or so.

Last night we were chilling on the couch, around 11pm she felt something pull in her neck and said oh shit, i think i just pulled a muscle, then the pain started radiating from her neck down through her shoulders/back.

She gets up to head to the bedroom to lie down, I went into the bathroom to grab her a heating blanket for her neck.

I head back into the living room and she's lying backwards on the couch looking up at the ceiling, looked she she was stretching her neck.

I sat down next to her and asked her a question, no response, I looked over and she was still staring at the ceiling, I said Lauren! no response

I grab her and start shaking her and yelling her name, no response, just looking straight off into space, her pupils wide as dinner plates, I thought she was fucking dead bros, it was the scariest moment of my fuckin life

I start screaming at her and shaking her, she finally comes around and says "What? whats wrong?"

holy shit!

I tell her she just passed out, shes all groggy and out of it, she starts sweating like crazy, I run over and turn on the AC and grab her some water

Come back and shes passed out AGAIN, same thing, eyes wide open just staring into space but completely gone

I shake her some more and she eventually bounces back, im scared shitless and tell her we need to go to the hospital, she refuses (understandably our hospital here in our small town is a known fuckin deathtrap) I grab a thermometer and take her temp, 95F!!

What in the fuck

Shes still sweating like crazy and I notice all her veins are popping like she been lifting weights all night and shes pale as fuck

I run over and turn off the AC, grab a shitload of blankets and cover her up trying to get her body temp up

Shes telling me to take care of the dogs and tell everyone that she loves them, like she knew she was about to die or some shit. WAT THE FUCK BROS

I called our docs emergency line and he didnt pick up, THX DOC

Shes still really groggy but slowly coming back around, I keep checking her temp and vitals and everything is coming back up to normal. After about 30 minutes she was fine, still had pain in her neck but otherwise normal. We stayed up for a while until she felt like she was OK then went to bed

Shes fine this morning, aside from the pain in her neck still.

WHAT THE FUCK BROS, IT WAS THE SCARIEST SHIT EVER, never seen anything like that and thought my wife was going to die in my goddamn living room out of nowhere

I am booking tickets right now to head to Guadalajara (medical care mecca) and make rounds at all the nerve/spine specialists out there, I think she has some sort of nerve in her neck that keeps getting irritated/trapped.

I stayed up all night googling shit about passing out and it seems like it may have been due to her standing up quickly from a laying down position combined with the extreme pain in her neck, but I am no goddamn doctor

Damn.

That's nerve related for sure. She needs a spinal MRI right away.

This isn't exactly what happened to me, but somewhat similar. Turned out to be a super rare autoimmune disease that attacks the spine.

I was reading this post on reddit by this girl who had Ehlers-Danlos syndrome that specifically affected the tendons that held her head in place. In certain positions her skull would "dislocate" from her spine and pinch some cluster of nerves responsible for autonomous function (heart rate, breathing, etc.) and her heart rate would either plummet or spike. I think she also said she'd have to start breathing manually when that happened.

Let me see if I can find it. I wonder if your wife cocking her head back caused some nerves or something (e.g. arteries/veins) to get pinched off, which fucked with something.

ya... looking back probably not the best idea but i was FREAKING out bro
Yeah....totally get it. Just saying the obvious.

This is no joke. She needs Level 1 care asap. I will make no bones about it: Your wife almost died. And it could happen again if she doesn't get care right away.

Sounds like a GM Seizure. My daughter had childhood epilepsy so I know how scary those are. Need to get her to a Neuro bro. Please take care and I hope she’s ok.

Personally I’d be in the car on the way back to SanDiego if you’re still down in baja
This.

Except it should be an airplane.

I realize Mexico probably has better medical care than we give them credit for, but I'd be heading stateside in a hurry if I could.

The one time I got sick in Baja, I got on the first flight home I could. Held my shit together though customs, and went straight to the closest urgent care.
