What use do they serve? Are they just like in the old days hunting elephants in africa?
apart from being really expensive... they can be very accurate, and usually come in BIG game calibres where mags and bolt pulls would be too big.
Also great for fast shooting. If you are good enough, you can be faster than a semi-auto rifle(if they make it in those huge calibers) and way faster than a bolt action.

Maybe they "can be very accurate", but big bore doubles are mostly where the term "minute of buffalo" comes from. Really their only functional advantages are dead nuts reliability because of the simplicity of the action and pretty much insta-follow ups (relatively speaking of course, since most doubles are chambered in something that will knock the snot out you).
Somebody should make one in .50BMG :eek9:
