I thought the Sony's were grainy?
The Sony CCD the D70 uses is the 2nd gen version found in the Nikon D100. I shoot with the D100 and I think between the 3 main 6mp sensors (Canon, Fuji, Sony), the Sony CCD holds it's own. It doesn't handle sharpening as well as the Canon, nor does it have the awsome dynamic color range of the Fuji CCD...but overall it's a very good sensor, not really having any major flaws, but being pretty good in all areas. I've shot over 30,000 shots with my D100 and I have no problems image-wise.
the reason why the other sony sensors are so grainy, is because they are much much smaller than this sensor (or the other 6mp sensors)...
when you cram 4, 5, or 6MP into a 1/1.8 (i think that's the measurement) sensor, there is more room for error/noise.
Ritz says our D70 will be shippied to us within the next couple days.
d100 also uses a sony sensor.
